WHAT GLORY SHALL BE SEEN? EX.

33:18-19
THE CONFLICT
The enemy is working continually to supplant Jesus Christ in the human heart, and to place his
attributes in the human character in the place of the attributes of God. He brings his strong delusions
to bear upon the human mind in order that he may have a controlling power. He seeks to obliterate
the truth and abolish the true pattern of goodness and righteousness, in order that the professed
Christian world shall be swept to perdition through separation from God. He is working in order that
selfishness shall become worldwide, and thus make of no effect the mission and work of Christ.
{CTr249.3}
ABRAHAM
It was for the accomplishment of this purpose that God called Abraham out from his idolatrous
kindred and bade him dwell in the land of Canaan. "I will make of thee a great nation," He said, "and I
will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing." Genesis 12:2. {COL 286.2}
ABRAHAM, JACOB, JOSEPH, MOSES, ETC
The descendants of Abraham, Jacob and his posterity, were brought down to Egypt that in the midst
of that great and wicked nation they might reveal the principles of God's kingdom. The integrity of
Joseph and his wonderful work in preserving the lives of the whole Egyptian people were a
representation of the life of Christ. Moses and many others were witnesses for God. {COL 286.3}
MOSES, JEWISH NATION
It was the privilege of the Jewish nation to represent the character of God as it had been revealed to
Moses. … This was the fruit that God desired from His people. In the purity of their characters, in the
holiness of their lives, in their mercy and loving-kindness and compassion, they were to show that
"the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul." Psalm 19:7. {COL 285.3}
JEWISH NATION TO THE GENTILES
Through the Jewish nation it was God's purpose to impart rich blessings to all peoples. Through Israel
the way was to be prepared for the diffusion of His light to the whole world. The nations of the world,
through following corrupt practices, had lost the knowledge of God. Yet in His mercy God did not
blot them out of existence. He purposed to give them opportunity for becoming acquainted with
Him through His church. He designed that the principles revealed through His people should be the
means of restoring the moral image of God in man. {COL 286.1}
THE CALL OF CHRIST
Christ came to the world to bring back the character of God to humankind, and to retrace on the
human soul the divine image. Through His entire life Christ sought by continuous, laborious efforts to
call the world’s attention to God and to His holy requirements in order that people might be imbued
with the Spirit of God, might be actuated by love, and might reveal in life and character the divine
attributes. . . . {CTr249.4}
BASED ON A TRUE LIFE STORY
The Saviour'sentire life was characterized by disinterested benevolence and the beauty of holiness.
He is our pattern of goodness. From the beginning of His ministry, men began to comprehend more
clearly the character of God. He carried out His teachings in His own life. He showed consistency
without obstinacy, benevolence without weakness, tenderness and sympathy without
sentimentalism. He was highly social, yet He possessed a reserve that discouraged any familiarity. His
temperance never led to bigotry or austerity. He was not conformed to the world, yet He was attentive
to the wants of the least among men. {CT 262.1}
OUR CALL
As God called Daniel to witness for Him in Babylon, so He calls us to be His witnesses in the world
today. In the smallest as well as the largest affairs of life He desires us to reveal to men the principles
of His kingdom. {COL 357.1}
THROUGH TRIALS AND AFFLICTIONS
Through trial and persecution the glory--the character--of God is revealed in His chosen ones. The
believers in Christ, hated and persecuted by the world, are educated and disciplined in the school of
Christ. On earth they walk in narrow paths; they are purified in the furnace of affliction. They follow
Christ through sore conflicts; they endure self-denial and experience bitter disappointments; but thus
they learn the guilt and woe of sin, and they look upon it with abhorrence. Being partakers of Christ's
sufferings, they can look beyond the gloom to the glory, saying, "I reckon that the sufferings of this
present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." Romans
8:18. {AA 576.4}
PRECIOUS ORE
The fact that we are called upon to endure trial shows that the Lord Jesus sees in us something
precious which He desires to develop. If He saw in us nothing whereby He might glorify His name, He
would not spend time in refining us. He does not cast worthless stones into His furnace. It is valuable
ore that He refines. The blacksmith puts the iron and steel into the fire that he may know what manner
of metal they are. The Lord allows His chosen ones to be placed in the furnace of affliction to prove
what temper they are of and whether they can be fashioned for His work. {MH 471.2}
THE POTTER AND THE CLAY
The potter takes the clay and molds it according to his will. He kneads it and works it. He tears it
apart and presses it together. He wets it and then dries it. He lets it lie for a while without touching it.
When it is perfectly pliable, he continues the work of making of it a vessel. He forms it into shape and
on the wheel trims and polishes it. He dries it in the sun and bakes it in the oven. Thus it becomes a
vessel fit for use. So the great Master Worker desires to mold and fashion us. And as the clay is in the
hands of the potter, so are we to be in His hands. We are not to try to do the work of the potter. Our
part is to yield ourselves to be molded by the Master Worker. {MH 471.3}
LOVE: GOD IN US
The badge of Christianity is not an outward sign, not the wearing of a cross or a crown, but it is that
which reveals the union of man with God. By the power of His grace manifested in the transformation
of character the world is to be convinced that God has sent His Son as its Redeemer. No other
influence that can surround the human soul has such power as the influence of an unselfish life. The
strongest argument in favor of the gospel is a loving and lovable Christian. {MH 470.1}
THE PRINCIPLES OF GOD’S KINGDOM
As God called Daniel to witness for Him in Babylon, so He calls us to be His witnesses in the world
today. In the smallest as well as the largest affairs of life He desires us to reveal to men the principles
of His kingdom. {COL 357.1}
THE PRINCIPLES DEFINED
Our duty to obey this law is to be the burden of this last message of mercy to the world. God's law is
not a new thing. It is not holiness created, but holiness made known. It is a code of principles
expressing mercy, goodness, and love. It presents to fallen humanity the character of God, and
states plainly the whole duty of man (MS 88, 1897). {1BC 1104.9}
WHAT OF THE THIRD ANGEL’S MESSAGE?
The truths of the third angel's message have been presented by some as a dry theory; but in this
message is to be presented Christ the Living One. He is to be revealed as the first and the last, as the
I AM, the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright and morning Star. Through this message the
character of God in Christ is to be manifested to the world. {6T 20.1}
REFORMING AS JESUS DID
All our varied capabilities belong to God. He has bought us by the gift of His only begotten Son, and
those who have a sense of their obligation to God will cooperate with the divine purpose. Those who
carry responsibilities in this work of giving the third angel's message to the world are to show a
determined purpose to advance the work of God. Heart and soul and voice are to be consecrated to
Him that they may reach the highest degree of excellence--a likeness to the character of God. Every
faculty, every attribute with which the Lord has endowed us is to be employed for the uplifting of
our fellow men. If we will do our best, working with unselfish spirit, the Lord will accept our service.-

WHAT GLORY SHALL BE SEEN?
By coming to dwell with us, Jesus was to reveal God both to men and to angels. He was the Word of
God,--God's thought made audible. In His prayer for His disciples He says, "I have declared unto them
Thy name,"--"merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,"--"that the
love wherewith Thou hast loved Me may be in them, and I in them." But not alone for His earthborn
children was this revelation given. Our little world is the lesson book of the universe.
THE GLORY OF SELF-RENOUNCING LOVE
God's wonderful purpose of grace, the mystery of redeeming love, is the theme into which "angels
desire to look," and it will be their study throughout endless ages. Both the redeemed and the
unfallen beings will find in the cross of Christ their science and their song. It will be seen that the glory
shining in the face of Jesus is the glory of self-sacrificing love. In the light from Calvary it will be seen
that the law of self-renouncing love is the law of life for earth and heaven; that the love which
"seeketh not her own" has its source in the heart of God; and that in the meek and lowly One is
manifested the character of Him who dwellethin the light which no man can approach unto. {DA
