What is a prophet in the Islamic tradition?

In the islamic tradition prophets are individuals who were sent by Allah to various

communities in order to serve as examples of ideal human behavior and to spread

Allah's message on Earth. A prophet does not have any power nor share some

divine attributes but it is consider to be chosen by god for the specific task of

teaching the faith of islam, most of them are considered messengers, also Prophets

and messengers are believed to have been sent by God to different communities

during different periods in history and the prophets of God are referred to as His

‘words’ because they convey god’s message to mankind, by His permission.

Another meaning could be that a prophet is an individual who is regarded as being in

contact with a divine being and is said to speak on behalf of that being, serving as an

intermediary with humanity by delivering messages or teachings from the

supernatural source to other people.

So basically after reading all this information and doing some analysis we can deduct

that in the islam religion a prophet is someone that is choosen by god to preach or

talk to people about the faith even though they have no powe or any supernatural

attributes, they just share the message of allah.

What role does Muhammad play in Islam?

The role of Muhammad in the Islam religion, they believed he is the final prophet that

is sent to preach the monotheistic teaching of Adam, Abraham,Moses and Jesus. He

believed he was the final prophet of God in all and he received the message of the

Qur’an. he was born and raised in Mecca, in a merchant city. In the Islamic belief,

Muslims believe Muhammad made a journey through the heaven to be shown by

God. When he wa forty, he reported to be visited by the Angel Gabriel

in the cave and received his first revelation of God, then he start preaching the

teachings these revelations in public, proclaiming to submit (Islam) to one God, and

that he was the last prophet and messenger.

How does he differ from other prophets?

In Islam, it is through the messages revealed to prophets that humanity comes to

know the desires of God and the divine laws that govern the universe and creation.

There are many other prophets sent by God to humanity, each prophet received

special words from God that were appropriate for humanity at the time in which the

particular prophet lived. Some are said to bring simply “news” from God. Others, like

Muhammad, bring a major message.

According to Islam, Muhammad is considered to be the last prophet to come to earth

as a messenger from god, also he is considered to be the last prophet that will come

to earth. According to people outside the religion, Muhammad is the founder of

Islam. But people that follow the Islamic religion believe that the importance of

Muhammad is that he restored all faith that people had on early prophets (Adam,

Abraham, Noah, Moses). Therefore, we can argue that Muhammad had a greater

importance among all prophets because apart from being the last prophet sent by

God, he also contributed to Islamic religion and traditions by leading people to pray
at the city of Mecca (which is an important tradition that happens every year and

takes place during Dhu Al- Hejjah)
