"All that glitters is not gold.

"

-The Merchant of Venice, Act II, Scene VII

The remark was written on a scroll in the 16th-century play says that appearances can be
deceiving at times. This is one of my favorite quotations from William Shakespeare, a significant
historical figure. Let us discover further about him.

Foremost, William Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright primarily recognized as the
most significant English-language writer and the world's greatest dramatist. He is known as
England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon." His famous works include Romeo and Juliet,
Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Macbeth, The Tempest, and his Sonnet.

Further, he is also often regarded as the most influential writer in English literature. Hundreds of
words and phrases he coined are still used by English speakers today. His influence on literature
is so significant that it's possible to argue that each of his works deserves a place on this list.
Still, these seven plays and one poetry collection are unquestionably among his most significant
accomplishments.

Moreover, Shakespeare's influence has also spread beyond traditional literature and theater to
include modern films, western philosophy, and English. He is named as one of the best English-
language writers, having introduced novelists, playwrights, and dramatists to new ways of
thinking and changing the way poetry is written.

Not only that, but during the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods of British theatre, Shakespeare
was a prolific writer (sometimes called the English Renaissance or the Early Modern Period).
Shakespeare's plays are undoubtedly his best famous works, yet they are far from his only works.
Shakespeare's poems are still widely read today.

I admire the most about him because, even though his works were written over 400 years ago,
his words are timeless. Many people find the Bard of Avon's writing exceptionally approachable
because of his ability to artistically encapsulate common human emotions with overarching
themes that stay relevant.
