Introduction
This project Report is about home-garden monitoring and controlling the main reason to
do this project is to control the usage of the water. In some gardens the waters are
unwantedly wasted and in some other cases there are insufficient water amount for the
plants due to this the plants are dead. There is no use of poring exceed amount of water for
plants there is a limited amount of water for plants where they can be grown. By controlling
the water amount and using those water for the plants which seeks water then there can be
many plants grown without wasting the water. For this problem in this project report I
proposed Automated Home- Gardening controlling and monitoring system using IOT

solution for this problem. The project report also describes the workforce structure and
various department from project planning to project completion.

Project aims, objectives and timeframes based on the chosen theme.

Scope Management Plan
This is a Major input to develop project management plan which prepares a detailed project
scope statement and enables the creation of WBS which establish how the WBS will be
maintained and approved. This specifies how formal acceptance of the project deliverables
will be obtained. And also, this control how requests for changes to the detailed project
scope statement will be processed.

Time Management Plan
This is the Management of the time spent and progress made, on tasks and activities. Good
time management requires the planning, scheduling, monitoring and controlling of all
project activities. Time management is the one of the six major functions of project
management. This has the official end date in order to meet the date that every project
needs a schedule and to manage their own time there are seven main processes in the time
management such as plan schedule management, define activities, sequence activities,
estimate resources, estimate durations, develop the project schedule, control the schedule
for our home gardening and monitoring system Gantt chart is included where we can see
the time spend for our project and log sheet.

Resource management plan
A resource management plan is a tool project managers use to manage their resources.
Typically, a resource management plan is used to manage the most important resource in
every project: the human resource. A project team is comprised of people with assigned
roles and responsibilities for a project.
Resource Calendar is a part of project plan. The resource calendar identifies key resources
needed for the project and the times/durations they'll be needed.

Benefits of creating a WBS
• Provides a visual representation of all parts of a project
• Offers an ongoing view for management and team members into how the
entire project is progressing
• Outlines the Outcome
• Divides the works as manageable
• Provides a way to make successful experiences repeatable
• Sets a foundation for estimating costs and allocating human and other
resources
Ensures no overlap and no gaps in responsibility or resources (Coursehero, 2019)

Gantt chart
A Gantt chart is a bar chart that shows the tasks of a project. It is a graphical illustration of
the duration of tasks against the progression of time. Gantt charts are useful tools for
planning and scheduling projects. A Gantt chart illustrates the breakdown structure of the
project by showing the start and finish dates as well as various relationships between
project activities, and in this way helps you track the tasks against their scheduled time or
predefined milestones.

Page | 22
Godrick Naveen - HND in Computing |MSCP Assignment
Benefits of a Gantt chart
• Multiple tasks and timelines into a single document.
• Can identify at what time which works are completed.

2.Qualitative and quantitative research methods appropriate for meeting project

aims and objectives.

2.1 Research methods

A research method is a systematic plan for conducting research. Research methods are the
strategies, processes or techniques utilized in the collection of data or evidence for analysis
in order to uncover new information or create better. Research is a systematic inquiry to
describe, explain, predict and control the observed phenomenon. Research involves
inductive and deductive methods. Inductive research methods are used to analyse the
observed phenomenon whereas; deductive methods are used to verify the observed
phenomenon. Inductive approaches are associated with qualitative research and deductive
methods are more commonly associated with quantitative research.
Quantitative methods aim to classify features, count them, and create statistical models to
test hypotheses and explain observations. Qualitative methods aim for a complete, detailed
description of observations, including the context of events and circumstances (Ntask,
2016)

Page | 23
Godrick Naveen - HND in Computing |MSCP Assignment
2.2 Qualitative Research
Qualitative research is a methodology which focuses on how people feel. What they think
and why they make certain choices. That kind of research is used for getting the larger,
more close-up picture of the issue in order to understand something deeper and dig the
problem until the cause. This is a non- statistical research method. Qualitative research is
heavily dependent on the experience of the researchers and the questions used to probe the
sample. Open-ended questions are asked in a manner that one question leads to another.
The purpose of asking open-ended questions is to gather as much information as possible
from the sample.

2.2.1 Qualitative Research Methods

Qualitative research is a research method that collects data using conversational methods,
where participants involved in the research are asked open-ended questions. The responses
collected are essentially non-numerical. This method not only helps a researcher
understand. Following are the methods used for qualitative research
(Anon., n.d.)
• One-to-one interview: - This interview technique is systematically planned and as
the name suggests is conducted with one participant at a given point in time. One-
to-one interviews need a researcher to prepare questions in advance and to make
sure the researcher asks only the most important questions to the participant.
• Focus groups: - Focus groups are small groups comprising of around less
participants who are usually experts in the subject matter. A moderator’s experience
in conducting focus group plays an important role.
• Ethnographic Research: - Ethnographic research is an in-depth form of research.
This method can prove to be a bit demanding in terms of a researcher getting
adapted to the natural environment.
• Case study research: - Case study research, as the name suggests is used to study
an organization or an entity. This type of research is used in fields like education
sector, philosophical and psychological studies.

Page | 24
Godrick Naveen - HND in Computing |MSCP Assignment
In our Automated Home –Gardening controlling and monitoring system using IOT I used
the case study research on the above list by studying the agriculture field I have come
through what are the problems they face does my solution gives them the benefit how the
water they are consuming and wasting. Have they used as same as my solution before
likewise I have done the case study for this proposal.
Reason for Case Study
• Very Low risk that our case study will miss relevant points
• It Explains How problems are solved
• It provides already proved solutions
• Lead to Spinoff Content
Advantages of Case Study
• It can be done remotely.
• It is Cost free
• Very accessible to reader
• Continuous Analysis
• Intensive study

2.3 Quantitative Research
Quantitative research is a structured way of collecting and analysing data obtained from
different sources. Quantitative research involves the use of computational, statistical, and
mathematical tools to derive results. The main purpose of quantitative research and analysis
is to quantify the data and assess it from the angle of numbers and other commonly adopted
metrics. This research method uses a computational, statistical and similar method to
collect and analyse data. Quantitative research involves a larger population as more number
of people means more data. In this manner, more data can be analysed to obtain accurate
results. This type of research method uses close-ended questions because, in quantitative
research, the researchers are typically looking at measuring the extent and gathering fool
proof statistical data. Online surveys, questionnaires, and polls are preferable data
collection tools used in quantitative research. Survey respondents can receive these surveys
on mobile phones, emails or can simply use the internet to access surveys or questionnaires.
2.3.1 Quantitative Research Methods
Quantitative research methods are the methods that deal with numbers and anything that
can be dealt with a measurable form, in a systematic way of investigating the phenomenon.
It is used to answer questions in terms of justifying relationships with measurable variables
to explain, predict or control a phenomenon.
There are two methods that are often used by researchers to conduct this type of research,
they are.
• Online surveys: - The final goal of survey research is to learn about a large
population by deploying the survey. Gone are the days where a survey was carried
out using a pen and a paper. Today, online surveys are a popular mode of research
as they are convenient and can be sent in an email or made available on the internet.
In this method, a researcher designs a survey with most relevant survey questions
and deploys the survey.
• Questionnaires: - A questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a series of
questions for the purpose of gathering information from respondents.

Page | 26
Godrick Naveen - HND in Computing |MSCP Assignment
In this two following methods techniques what I have used for the research is
Questionnaires
A questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a series of questions for the purpose
of gathering information from respondents. They can be carried out face to face, by
telephone, computer or post. Questionnaires provide a relatively cheap, quick and efficient
way of obtaining large amounts of information from a large sample of people. Data can be
collected relatively quickly because the researcher would not need to be present when the
questionnaires were completed. This is useful for large populations when interviews would
be impractical.
Reasons for using questionnaires
• Patterns, frequency, ease and success of use
• User needs, expectations, perspectives, priorities and preferences
• User satisfaction with collections and services
• Shifts in user attitudes and opinions
• Relevance of collections and services to user needs
Advantages of questionnaires
• Relatively easy to analyses.
• A large sample of the given can be contacted at relatively low cost.
• Simple to administer.
• Simple and quick for the respondent to complete.
• Information is collected in a standardized way.
• They are usually straightforward to analyses.

2.4 Project management process
Project management is one of the critical processes of any project. This is due to the fact
that project management is the core process that connects all other project activities and
processes together. Defines project management as the application of knowledge, skills,
tools and techniques to a broad range of activities in order to meet the requirements of a
particular project. It also requires the Budget, scope and schedule to deliver the project
objectives under the expected quality. Each one of these elements needs to be managed in
a systematic manner with the development of plans to identify the roles and resources
needed. There is also the complexity of development projects that require a different
approach and a new way at managing the limited resources and the increasing demands
from all stakeholders. To manage this complexity the project needs to be de-constructed
into manageable, interrelated parts; or processes, by separating the project into different
management process the project manager has a better chance to control the outcomes of
the project and manage the challenges that can never be fully predicted during its design.
Managing a project requires that organizations take in consideration a system approach to
manage the different elements of a project. A systems approach includes a holistic view of
a project environment, and an understanding that the project is made of a series of
interacting components working to meet an objective in order to obtain the desired benefits.
When it comes to the activities of project management, there are plenty. However, these
plenty of project management activities can be categorized into five main processes
(Smartsheets, 2018)

The process of directing and controlling a project from start to finish may be further divided
into 5 basic phases
1. Project Initiation
This first stage of a project defines the business case, the justification for the project, and
the goal of this phase is to define the project at a broad level. This phase usually begins
with a business case. The value of the project is determined, as well as its feasibility. This
is when you will research whether the project is feasible and if it should be undertaken. If
feasibility testing needs to be done, this is the stage of the project in which that will be
completed.

Page | 32
Godrick Naveen - HND in Computing |MSCP Assignment
2. Project Planning
This phase is key to successful project management and focuses on developing a roadmap
that everyone will follow. This phase typically begins with setting goals. The project plan
includes details about how the project work will be carried out, how it will be monitored
and controlled, how communication will be facilitated and information about costs and
timescales. The project plan will include what resources are needed, financing and
materials. There are many project management tools available to assist with scheduling,
one of the most common being the Gantt chart.
3. Project Execution
This is the phase where deliverables are developed and completed. This project since a lot
is happening during this time, like status reports and meetings, development updates, and
performance reports. The person or group assigned to carry out a task will need to know,
in detail, what the task involves as well as any dependencies and timescales, and will also
need to understand the criteria by which each task is deemed complete. This phase is made
up of these detailed processes.
4. Project Monitor and Control
To ensure that the project plan is being actualized, all aspects of the project must be
monitored and adjusted as needed. Project managers will use key performance indicators
(KPIs) to determine if the project is on track. A PM will typically pick two to five of these
KPIs to measure project performance
5. Project Closing
Once there is an approved end product the project can be formally closed and a final review
held to learn from both the successes and the mistakes and take that experience forward to
the next project, an evaluation is necessary to highlight project success and/or learn from
project history.

Page | 33
Godrick Naveen - HND in Computing |MSCP Assignment
2.5 Accuracy and reliability Methods
Data accuracy and reliability are very important concerns in doing good research because
inaccurate and unreliable data lead to spurious or wrong conclusions. The relationship
between indicators and measures and the underlying concepts they are taken to measure is
often contested. Reliability is, literally, the extent to which we can rely on the source of the
data and, therefore, the data itself. Reliable data is dependable, trustworthy, unfailing, sure,
authentic, genuine, reputable. Consistency is the main measure of reliability. (blog, 2012)
2.5.1 Accuracy and reliability in Qualitative Research
Assessing the reliability of study findings requires researchers and agricultural Qualitative
research is frequently criticized for lacking issues with poor justification of the methods
has used, lack of transparency in the analytical procedures and the findings being merely a
collection of personal opinions. Tests and measures used to establish the validity and
reliability of quantitative research cannot be applied to qualitative research

2.5.2 Accuracy and reliability in Interviews

In the interviews, Accuracy are made on the basis of face Accuracy how accurately they
are answering one way of validating interview measures is to compare the interview
measure with another measure that has already been shown before. If both are same then it
can be assumed that the validity of the interview is comparable with the proven validity of
the other measure it’s the most practical way of achieving greater Accuracy.

2.5.3 Accuracy and reliability in Quantitative Research

Here the implementation of the findings of well-conducted quality researches this is an
important skill for me to do the proposal for Automated Home –Gardening controlling and
monitoring system using IOT. Consideration must be given to both results of the study and
the issue of the research conducted this enhance the quality of the studies. This is achieved
through measurement of the Accuracy and reliability in quantitative research.

2.5.4 Accuracy and reliability in questionnaires

Questioners plays a major role in our researches where we could gain many details about
agriculture and irrigation. We can see the validity of the questioners like does the audience
who complete questionnaires has done accurately, honestly and correctly or not. If the

Page | 34
Godrick Naveen - HND in Computing |MSCP Assignment
responses are accurate then that will be a huge information to us. To increase the reliability
we must do a comparison between relies of responses and the non-responders.

3.1 Data Analysis

Process of evaluating data using analytical and statistical tools to discover useful
information and aid in decision making is known as Data analysis. The process of
extracting, compiling, and modelling raw data for purposes of obtaining constructive
information that can be applied to formulating conclusions, predicting outcomes or
supporting decisions in business, scientific and social science settings. There are many data
analysis methods like Text analytics, Data visualization, Data mining and Business
intelligence. We can analyse data from a multitude of sources using Big Data management
solutions and customer experience management solutions that utilize data analysis to
transform data into actionable insights. Asking questions about what happened, what is
happening, and what will happen predictive analytics involves data analysis. (Anon., 2016)

Qualitative Data Analysis

Information Like interview transcripts, notes, video and audio recordings, images and text
documents are referred as qualitative data analysis. The collected data should move into
some form of explanation, understanding or interpretation of the people and situations

investigating. It should be meaningful and symbolic content of qualitative data. There are
five categories Qualitative data analysis such as
Content Analysis: This refers to the process of categorizing verbal or non- verbal data to
classify.
Framework analysis: Identifying the framework, coding, charting, mapping and
interpretation.
Grounded theory: This method of starts with an analysis of a single case to formulate a
theory.
Discourse analysis: A method of analysis of naturally occurring talk and all types of
written text.
Narrative Analysis: This is the revision of primary qualitative data by researcher to
involve different experiences of each respondent. (Anon., 2014)
3.2.1 Qualitative Data Analysis Tools and Techniques.
Qualitative research is really hard to predict, which needs a lot of analysis. To cover trends
in thought and opinions and analyse the problems that may occur this Qualitative Research
is used. There are many unstructured or semi-structured techniques are used in qualitative
data collection methods. We can do Google search on internet to get more information.
This will analyse tool manually like grouping data according to themes. We can make our
questionnaire in such a way that questions are categorized according to themes that may
be derived from the research questions and objectives. There are some software tools that
will help us for the analysis such as
Text Analysis: The system for identifying themes in texts and was designed for use in
discourse research. We can also analyse, extract, and save coded information.
ATLAS: To analyse large data’s this tool is used mostly, many media types like txt, doc,
docx, pdf, mp3, mp4, avi are offered by this tool.
MAXQDA: This tool support all qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research
projects. Which allows us to import, organize, analyse, visualize and publish all forms of
data

3.3 Quantitative Data analysis
Describing and interpreting objects statistically and with numbers are based on this
Quantitative Data Analysis, which aims to interpret the data collected for the phenomenon
through numeric variables and statistics. This includes the calculation of frequencies of
variables and differences between variables. A quantitative approach is usually associated
with finding evidence to either support or reject hypotheses you have formulated at the
earlier stages of your research process and also it includes computational and statistical
methods of analysis.
There are some statics such as
Frequencies: They are the count of the number of times a particular value is found in the
data set.
Percentages: This is used to express a set of values as a percentage of the whole.
Mean: The numerical average of the values for a particular variable.
Median: The numerical midpoint of the values that is at the center of the distribution of
the values.
Mode: The most common value or repeatedly occurring value for a particular variable.
Minimum and maximum values range: The highest and lowest values for any variable.
(Anon., 2015)

3.3.1 Quantitative data analysis tools and techniques

Quantitative data collection and analysis tools that are defined as a series of charts, maps,
and diagrams designed to collect, interpret, and present data for a wide range of
applications and industries. Different programs and methodologies have been developed
for the use in any industry, from manufacturing and quality assurance to research groups
and data collection companies and we need to understand what we can make use of that
data and how to interpret the results, software that is designed for statistical analysis can
make this process as smooth and as easy as possible. Many tools are available to make
use of statistical analysis of data
Example tools are
Statistical package for the social sciences: This is a general-purpose statistical package
that mainly used in academic research for analysing, presenting and editing numerical

data. It is compatible with all file formats that are commonly used for structured data
such as Excel, plain text files and relational (SQL) databases.
Microsoft Excel: - This software offer many variety of tools for data visualization and
simple statistics. It’s simple to generate summary metrics and customizable graphics and
figures, making it a usable tool for many who want to see the basics of their data.

3.4 Appropriate Recommendations as a result of research and Data Analysis

3.4.1 Analysis of Qualitative Data

Qualitative data analysis can be defined as the process of making sense from research
views and opinions of situations, corresponding patterns, categories and regular
similarities. Qualitative data analysis tends to be an ongoing and iterative process,
implying that data collection, processing, analysis and reporting are intertwined, and not
necessarily a successive process (Anon., 2016)
Case study research
According to my research there are two parts like one part is they are wasting water while
the other is suffering due to lack of water and also in the one part the plants are growing
well and other part it’s can be decayed.
Conclusion: First thing is to limit the water usage, and we must consider the soil
moisture when it gets dry at that time only the water is needed or else no need
because when this happens the plant will be lack of water and gets dry and dead.
This is the main consideration for our project proposal in the case study I have
identified this set of things by considering the soil moisture level we can come
through many ideas. Rather that this how they are maintained this is also a major
cause of dead plants.
They are continuously facing this water challenges in past many years what can they do
to solve that problem

Page | 38
Godrick Naveen - HND in Computing |MSCP Assignment
Conclusion: To solve this my solution is that We must consider one main thing The
Soil Moisture level to check the soil moisture level we must fix a Moisture sensor
and update the Moisture level on the website, then the moisture level will be checked
by user from the remote location and control the water supply for this we must fix a
motor then the user has to switch the motor status ON or OFF then the water pump
will be turned ON or OFF respectively. The soil moisture will monitored and water
supply can be controlled just by switching motor status then the user doesn’t need
to worry about his plants that may damage and affected due to lack of water.

3.4.2 Analysis of Quantitative Data

This referred to the recorded data of the structured questionnaire and that were presented
according to the various sections and subsections of the questionnaires quantitative data
were presented in either table format or by means of charts and other graphics. That is to
present data visually for a quick understanding. Each representation of data provided an
indication of numerical scores and percentages according to related categories in order to
provide an overview of the particular grouping of data (Coursehero, 2019)
Biographical data
My questionnaire responders are required to answer questions regarding their gender and
age, which will give me the idea to compile a profile of the study population as well as to
draw comparisons between different groups relevant to this study. Firstly, the gender of
the participants will be looked at.

Pie chart analyse to know which soil is best to grow plants

By seeing the chart, we could know 16.7% says Laterite is good and 16.7% says Red
sandy loam is good and 33.3% says Alluvial is good and 33.3% says other soils.
Conclusion:
We can conclude that we can use Alluvial soil for our plants because other includes many
soils not a particular one.

Pie Chart Analyse to know that rainy season will effect productivity of plants.

By seeing the pie chart, we can see that 33.3% says that decrease productivity of plants in
rainy season and 66.7% says that it will increase productivity
Conclusion:
Rainy season increases the productivity of plants so at that time we can make use of
growing more plants.

Pie chart analyse to weather the productivity of plants are affected by sunny season

From the responses from the respondents to know does sunny season affect the
productivity plants or not by looking at the pie chart we come to know that 16.7% are
said that the sunny season will affect the productivity of plants and 16.7% people has said
that there will be no change at all due to this sunny season and finally we can see that
66.7% has said that productivity of plants will decrease.
Conclusion
We can conclude that there is decrease in productivity of plants in the sunny season this
can be during sunny season there can be lack of water now we have proposed the solution
for that.
Pie Chart analyse to know which type of fertilizer is used for plants.

Godrick Naveen - HND in Computing |MSCP Assignment
By seeing the pie chart we can see that 16.7% says 15kg of green manure can be used and
83.3% says that 1Kg of Urea can be used for the plants.
Conclusion:
We can use 1Kg of urea for our plants for a better growth.

Pie chart Analyse to know how many Minutes/Hours does single plant maintained
per day

From the responses obtained from the responders in the pie chart we could know that
33.3% says to maintain plants for 30 – 40Mins per day and 66.7% says to maintain plants
for 15 – 30Mins per day
Conclusion:
We should maintain our plants for 15 – 30min per day which makes the plants healthier.

Pie chart analyse to know how much water does a single plant needed for the better
growth

From the responses from the respondents by looking this pie chart we can see that around
16.7% they say that more than 4L of water needed for the plant and 33.3% say that 2 - 3L
of water needed for the plant to grow well and finally 50% of them says that 1 – 2L of
water needed for better growth.
Conclusion:
We can conclude that for better growth of plant then 1 – 2L of water needed for a plant.
So, without using excess amount of water, they can use 1 -2L.

Pie chart Analyse to know which is the best season to plant seed to get best result.

From the Responses received from responders 16.7% says spring is best and 16.7% says
summer is best and 33.3% says autumn is best and finally 33.3% says winter is best
Conclusion: Winter and autumn is the best season to seed plants to get better outputs.

3.5.1 Bar chart

This is a chart that uses vertical or horizontal bars to compare between two or more
things to analyse the project and specify the basic approach to be used.

Benefits of Bar chart

• Show each data category in a frequency distribution
• Display relative numbers or proportions
• In visual form it represent large data
• Estimate key points at a glance
• Can check the accuracy
• Easy to Understand

Pie Chart
A pie chart is a two-dimensional circle which is divided into a few parts. This chart
represents the sum of all its data gathered, an individual part represent a percentage of the
all part of the chart.
Benefits of pie chart
• Easy to understand
• It represents data visually as a fractional part of a whole.
• It shows the people to see the data comparison.
• The need for readers to examine or measure underlying numbers
themselves can be removed by using this chart.
• To highlight points we want to make and we can control pieces of data in
the pie chart.

1. Reflect on the value of undertaking the research to meet stated objectives and
own learning and performance.
An effective assessment task is one which assesses students' attainment of the learning
outcomes. Unit learning outcomes are what students are expected to know, understand or
be able to do in order to be successful in a unit. They begin with an action verb and
describe something observable and measurable.
Key to successful learning: Ranging assessment with learning outcomes.
One of the keys to successful learning is the aligned curriculum this means that learning
outcomes are clear, learning experiences are designed to assist student achievement of
those outcomes, and carefully designed assessment tasks allow to demonstrate
achievement of those outcomes.
Designing assessments which allows students to demonstrate their achievement of
the learning outcomes
Assessing learning can deeply shape the educational experiences. One of the challenges
of effective assessment is to ensure that there is a close adjustment between the learning
goals, and the learning activities aimed at meeting learning goals and the assessment
tasks used to assess whether learning goals have been met. Current best practice includes
assessment which is aligned to learning goals which focus not only on content knowledge
but also on process and capabilities.

Report
This is a general method of sharing information, recommendations or conclusions related
to a specific purpose. This is often used as assessment task because well-developed report
writing skills are important in many professional contexts. Reports are written based on
gathering and analysing information using a discipline specific methodology and format
and they can be used to assess laboratory, field work or case studies.

Presentation
They are usually made verbally to the class on a prepared or given topic and may include
the use of presentation aids such as PowerPoint and prezi. This assessment can be

undertaken individually or as a group. Presentations may take different forms such as
role-plays, facilitating group activities, debating, presenting a product, question and
answer time, and formal speeches as well.

Conclusion
The idea of the report is to propose a suitable solution for home gardening monitoring
and controlling system I have proposed a good solution. And I have included many
analyses which is vastly helpful for the project and I have included the idea of conducting
when you read this report you would have a clear output and goal of this report.
