Textbook: Play English, Level P, Ed. Sinapsis


Title of the lesson: Vocabulary revision (food, animals, body parts)

Type of lesson: Consolidation

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able:
- to reproduce short and simple sentences using specific vocabulary (What’s your favourite
fruit/ vegetable? My favourite fruit/ vegetable is…, What do you see? I see a ……)
- to understand and follow simple instructions.
- to use vocabulary related to food, animals, and body parts in language games and different
utterances.
Skills: speaking and listening
Techniques: explanation, matching, conversation, drilling.
Interaction: individual work, pair work, group work
Aids: whiteboard, marker, ppt presentation, PC, puzzles, small pictures, glue, a numbered board,
Baamboozle game, worksheets of an incomplete clown face, coloured pencils.

Anticipated problems:

a) Pupils might have problems understanding everything the teacher says.


Possible solutions – Teacher uses Romanian when necessary.

Stages of the lesson


Activity 1 – Warm-up
Aim: to introduce PP to the atmosphere of the lesson

Procedure Interaction Timing

Routine greetings and questions, taking the register.


T-PP
T plays PPT slides showing some pictures each described by a sentence. If 5 min
the sentence and the picture match, PP touch their noses and stand on one Whole
leg. If there is no match PP raise their arms and spin around. class
PP are involved in reading the sentences if any volunteers.

Aids: ppt presentation, PC

Activity 2 – Lead – in
Aim: to introduce the topic of the lesson

Procedure Interaction Timing

T gives each pair of PP an envelope containing a puzzle picture T-PP


representing food (fruit and vegetables), animals (wild and domestic), or
body parts that they have to reconstruct. Group 5 min
T sticks the first formed puzzles on the board, announces the lesson’s title, work
and the vocabulary to be reviewed.

Aids: puzzle pictures, glue, whiteboard

Activity 3 – Speaking practice


Aim: to practise vocabulary related to food

Procedure Interaction Timing

T gives each child a piece of paper and asks pupils to colour their favourite T-P
fruit on one side, and their favourite vegetable on the other side.
T starts the activity with a volunteer pupil by asking 'What's your favourite 10 min
fruit/ vegetable?’ and the P answers ‚My favourite fruit/ vegetable is …..’. P-P
This is done several times with other volunteers and ends with all PP
mingling and practising.

Activity 4 – Listen and match


Aim: to put the flashcards in the correct square according to teacher’s instructions

Procedure Interaction Timing

PP work in pair and are given an envelope with small pictures along with a
numbered board (Appendix I). PP have to glue each flashcard in the correct T-PP
position on the board according to the instructions they hear (for example: 7 min
‚Put the tiger on 2B.’) Pair work
Their works are displayed in front of the classroom and examined by
everybody.

Activity 5 – Speaking practice


Aim: a) to review domestic and wild animals
b) to engage PP with a fun, competitive activity

Procedure Interaction Timing

1. T invites PP to stand up and announces that they are going to chant ‘1 Whole
finger, 1 finger, turn, turn, turn’ class
10 min
2. T divides PP in two teams (team 1 - 14 girls and team 2 - 15 boys, if all 000
pupils are present) and announces that they are going to play a Bamboozle Group
game - What do you see?. PP from different teams ask each other ‘What do Work
you see?’ and answer ‘I see a ……… (name the animal)’.

Activity 6 – Picture dictation


Aim: to practice listening and following a series of instructions to draw a clown

Procedure Interaction Timing

T gives PP a worksheet with an incomplete face drawn on it and entitled


My funny clown (Appendix II)
T asks PP to draw and colour the following: My clown has two big orange T-PP
eyes. The clown has a big yellow mouth and red ears. His nose is blue and
small. The clown has purple hair and a green hat. 10 min

Some of the PP present their clown in front of the classroom: This is my P-PP
funny clown. It has got two big orange eyes. I like it. Thank you!
T makes the same clown and presents it first.

Activity 7 – Feedback and evaluation

Procedure Interaction Timing

T appreciates pupil’s activity based on their participation in the classroom T-PP 3 min
through stickers. T invites PP to express their opinion regarding the
activities done: Which activity was their favourite? Which activity did they
like less?
