Overview
Within this topic, we are to move through a few perspectives of our society that remaining
unnoticed is a Lifeline to our Weavers.
A weaver's cooperative is one of the boons that have been helping many weavers through
the globe. I will be centering on this topic for today's presentation and hope to make it a
clear view in our minds.

Goals
1. To be able to Know how weavers play an important role in our lives before we
understand deeper concepts.
2. A boon to weavers in the society - A weaver's cooperative.
3. How a weaver’s cooperative works in helping wevers and what actually is the
problem behind this solution of forming a weaver’s cooperative.

Let’s go deeper into this topic -

A weaver's cooperative is a way in which weavers can reduce their dependence on
the merchant and earn a higher income for themselves.
Weaving is an amazing craft which utilizes beautiful wooden tools: looms, shuttles,
frames and more. These tools are works of art in and of themselves, and even more
incredible.
Without our weavers Neither could our country have a recognition nor could we have
our basic smallest needs fulfilled.
Why is a Weaver’s Cooperative Formed ?
Equality is a basic principle in a democracy. It also involves getting a fair wage in the
market. The merchant gives the orders and raw material. They get the cloth at low
price and sell to garment factories at high price and thus earn more than weavers.

Working of the Weaver’s Cooperative -

I. In a weaver's cooperative, the weavers form a group and collectively initiate

some activities. These activities include:

A. Procurement of yarn from the yarn dealer

B. Distribution of yarn among the weavers
C. Marketing

II. The government also intervenes at times to help the weavers.

So how is it a Boon to our weavers -

A weaver’s cooperative reduces the involvement of merchants thus weavers getting a
fair wage for their beautiful hand work .

Milestones
For example in Tamil Nadu the government runs a Free School Uniform programme
for which it procures the cloth from the powerloom weaver’s cooperatives.
