Name: Fatin Haidah Binti Suhaimi
Matric No: A187440
Set: 12
Role 1’s name: Patrick Role 2’s name: Peter

(Outside the house)

1 Such an adorable female kitten. It seems like you’re lost right? Pity on you dear,
how can I leave you without taking you home. Unfortunately, my parent doesn’t
like a cat. By hook or by crook, I will persuade my parents until they agree with
me to keep you in our house.
(Inside the house)
1 Daddy, look at this female kitten. She is so adorable, right?
2 Oh no, Patrick. Put the kitten down, it’s disgusting. How can you bring her in,
don’t you know that your parents doesn’t like cats?
1 I knew it. But you should know, there’re a lot of advantages of keeping this cat
in our house.
2 Before you tell me the advantages, let me point out to you ten disadvantages of
keeping that scary adorable creature.
1 Alright, go ahead.
2 Keeping a cat such as requires a lot of responsibilities. First, you should take
your time to feed the cat and train your cat to defecate in the litter box. Doesn’t
that mean it will interrupt your study time?
1 No, it’s not.
2 Second, you have to do some cleaning work such as you have to clean the litter
box on a regular basis. If you don’t take care of your cat too much and if you
don’t clean the litter box on a regular basis, chances are that also our home will
start to smell quite bad. This will not only be quite bad for your own quality of
life, but it may also greatly annoy our guests and your friends may no longer
want to come over to our home due to that. This is quite annoying, and chances
are that if you don’t really love your cat, you will become quite fed up and may
give away your cat at one point in time since you simply do no longer want to
do this clean-up work.
1 That’s not my character and that’s will not happen.
2 Third, we will have to spend significant amount of money on cat food. Especially if
you want to get real quality food for your cat, this can become quite costly over time.
Moreover, you will have to get vaccinations and other things in order to fulfill the
regulatory requirements for your cat. All this can add up to significant costs and we
should make sure that you are ready to spend those amount of money on that cat.
1 There’s a solution, right?
2 Fourth, your cat may get sick. In case your cat gets sick, you may also have to
attend a veterinarian. However, the treatment of veterinarians can be quite
costly and you should definitely factor this into your calculations when it comes
to the decision of whether you want to get a cat or not.
1 I can handle it well, Dad.
2 Fifth, it may cause potential allergies and asthma in other the cat can lose plenty of
hair. In fact, cat allergies are quite common, and you should definitely take a test
to check out whether you are allergic to cat hair or not before you get one.
Otherwise, you may notice your allergy too late, and your cat may end up in an

animal shelter sooner or later since you will not be able to take proper care of it
due to your allergy.
1 I don’t have any allergies and asthma Dad.
2 Sixth, the cat can negatively affect your quality of sleep. Cats can also be quite
annoying at night time. If you are tired and you need to get a good sleep in order
to recharge your batteries for the next day, the last thing you need is the
meowing of your cat which keeps you awake. Hence, make sure that you close
the door behind you in order to avoid your cat waking you up in the middle of
the night.
1 That’s not true, you need to know the advantages first.
2 Let me finish my word first.
1 Alright.
2 Seventh, the cat may scratch our furniture. Thus, if you have precious
belongings and don’t want to get any scratches on them, getting a cat may not
be the right way to go for you since cats are unpredictable and you will not be
able to protect your stuff in a proper manner most of the time.
1 The furniture can’t give us full of happiness, right?
2 Eighth, traveling is not easy with cats. Another problem with having a cat is
that it makes it also harder for us when it comes to traveling. Quite often, this
kitten will not be able to come with us on our travels. In such a case, you will
need a cat sitter who takes care of this kitten. However, those cat sitters can be
quite costly and if you go on vacation for a significant period of time, the costs
for a cat sitter can really add up. Thus, make sure that you are ready to pay this
kind of money for a cat sitter in case you want to go on vacation on a regular
basis.
1 There’s no problem.
2 Ninth, getting a cat is a long-term commitment. You should also be aware of
the fact that getting a cat is a long-term commitment. Once you get a cat, you
will have to take care of it for many years to come. Sure, you could give it away
to an animal shelter, yet this should be the last option you want to take since the
living conditions of animals are often quite poor in those shelters. Thus, make
sure that you really want to take care of your cat for a longer period of time
before you get one.
1 I love to do it.
2 Last but not least, saying goodbye to your cat can be hard. Sooner or later, it
will also be time to say goodbye to your cat. This is probably the hardest part of
owning a cat. Over time, your cat will become a valued family member and if
your cat dies, chances are that you will cry a lot and may also feel quite
depressed. Consequently, make sure that you are able to deal with those things
in an emotionally healthy way before you get a cat in order to protect yourself
from too much emotional pain.
1 That’s right Dad but, having a cat can make some precious moments for us,
right? Alright, I know that you’re a professor, and maybe you had an experience
with a cat once upon a time. But you should know these advantages too. Would
you like to hear it Dad?
2 Of course, son. Go ahead.
1 In my view, I can identify the stressful vibe in our home. You and mother go to
work in the morning and come back late at night almost every day. So, you
should know this cat can reduce our overall stress level. if we are quite stressed
now and searching for a way to lower our stress level, getting a cat may be a

great way to do so. Many studies have shown that owning a cat can help us to
relax and to put things into perspective. Cats can also have a calming nature.
Thus, getting a cat can be a great way to reduce our stress levels and therefore
to greatly improve our daily life. Maybe it is just your thoughts about the
disadvantages. We will feel the positivity if we change the way we think.
2 Another advantage?
1 The cat can help us to deal with emotional issues. If we are currently in a
mentally fragile state and search for a way to become more emotionally stable,
cats can also help us in this regard. We will have a purpose in life since this
kitten relies on you to feed it and this may give you the strength to carry on in
your life and to overcome your issues. However, getting a cat may not be
enough and we should still get the advice of a doctor in order to treat our mental
problems.
2 Okay, give me another point.
1 Next, Cats can keep themselves busy. Compared to other pets like dogs, cats
can keep themselves busy and you will not have to spend too much time making
them happy. In fact, this can be quite helpful especially on stressful days where
you have quite a lot going on in your life. In such times, you may not have time
to take your dog for a walk and having a cat instead of a dog can help you quite
a lot in this regard.
2 Anything else?
1 Owning a cat can help me to become more responsible. Especially I’m still
young, chances are that I have not learned how to take care of things in a proper
manner. In such a case, owning a cat can be quite helpful since I will have to
feed this kitten on a regular basis since it will die otherwise. Hence, I can learn
that my actions really matter, and this knowledge is quite important, not only to
keep a cat but also to succeed in various other parts of my daily life.
2 Give me more.
1 Getting a cat can improve your overall quality of life. Cats can give us
company; they can light up our mood when we are down and they can also
reduce our stress level. All of this can make our life much better. Moreover,
also our overall life expectancy will likely increase since our risk to suffer from
serious diseases will likely be lower by owning a cat due to all the positive
effects mentioned above.
2 I love to hear that. Any additional?
1 Cats can make us laugh. Cats will always surprise us and we will not be able to
forecast what will happen in the near future. Hence, owning a cat also implies
being exposed to some degree of uncertainty and this can be quite exciting since
we will always look forward to the next day to see what this kitten will do.
2 Oh god. You’re very brilliant, such a kind, caring and loving person, just like
me and your mother. Proud for having you son. Because of your explanations, it
opened my heart to take care of this kitten. It seems the kitten will give a lot of
benefits to us.
1 Ah, feeling thankful to hear that. I will bear all the costs while taking care of the
kitten.
2 You don’t have to do that. Dad will bear all the costs.
1 Ah, it’s great! I love you so much, Daddy.
2 No worries. I love you too.
1 So, I can keep this kitten, right?
12 Yes, you may.
