Q1 A waffle slab (without beams) is used to cover the floor system shown in Figure 1. Pans with
(45) dimensions of 850 x 850 x 400 mm are used as shown in the figure. Using ACI 318 Code
provisions;
1. Check the thickness of slab to control deflection.
2. Find the reinforcements for the typical interior panel.
3. Draw clear sketches to a suitable scale showing all reinforcements and dimensions details.
Use:
Thickness of slab = 480 mm Solid head dimension, LSH=L/3
Thickness of top slab=80 mm Finishing load =1.5 kN/m2
Width of the ribs = 150 mm Live load = 5.0 kN/m2.
Sizes of all columns are 600 x 600 mm fy=420 MPa, f’c=28 MPa , and c= 25 kN/m3.

Q2 Design the hinge at support B for the two hinged portal frame shown in Figure 2 and draw clear
(20) sketch showing all reinforcements and dimensions details. Use the following data:
1. Pu=317 kN.
2. Hu=83 kN.
3. Ɵ=30o.
Use: f’c=28 MPa and fy=420 MPa.
Figure 2
Q3 Figure 3 shows a circular arched slab. In addition to its own weight, the slab carries covering
(35) material of 0.80 kN/m2 and a live load of 1.0 kN/m2 both on horizontal projection. It is required to:
1. Design the arched slab only (neglect the effects caused by weights of ties and hangers).
4. Determine the spacing (S) between ties if the tie section is reinforced with 4ϕ28 mm (fy for
ties = 420 MPa).
2. Draw clear sketches to a suitable scale showing all reinforcements and dimensions details of
the arched slab system.
Use: fy=420 MPa and f’c=28 MPa
