Quarter 2 – Week 2:
Solves Problems Involving System

Variables
(M8AL-lla-4)
SOLVE PROBLEMS INVOLVING LINEAR
INEQUALITIES IN TWO VARIABLES
LET US KNOW
In the previous activity sheet, you have learned how to solve problem
involving linear inequalities in two variables, now we can begin to solve
problems involving systems of linear inequalities in two variables.
In this activity sheet, we will learn how to solve problems involving linear
inequalities in two variables. Just like solving linear equation in two variables,
the solutions of inequalities in two variables are ordered pairs that make the
inequality true.

Solution:
Let
x = number of bouquets and
y = number of baskets.
The total number of hours that Ayie can work is no more than 40 hours per
week.
2𝑥 + 𝑦 ≤ 40
The total amount Ayie can spend in making home decorations is no more than
₱3,600
150𝑥 + 100𝑦 ≤ 3 600
Solve for y in each inequality.
2𝑥 + 𝑦 ≤ 40 150𝑥 + 100𝑦 ≤ 3 600
𝑦 + 2𝑥 ≤ 40 100𝑥 ≤ −150𝑥 + 3 600

Many elevators save a capacity of 1,000 kg. Suppose that children (each
weighing 35 kg) and adults (each weighing 80 kg) are on an elevator. Graph a
system of linear inequalities that will indicate when the elevator is over
loaded.

LET US PRACTICE
2. Miss Mendoza Has two tutees, one paying Php. 250.00 per session and
the other is paying Php. 300.00 per session. She must earn at least
Php. 600.00 a month to pay expenses while attending college. Write an
inequality that shows the various ways she can schedule her time to
achieve her goal.
5
LET US REMEMBER
3. For linear inequality involving the symbols < or > in two variables, the
_______________ is dashed.
6. To graph linear inequality 𝑥 + 𝑦 < 4, first graph the boundary line. Then
pick a test ________________ to determine which half-plane to shade as the
solution.
LET US APPRECIATE
Directions: Read and analyse the given situations and answer the
question that follows, then graph the system. Write your answers on a
separate sheet of paper.
1. Your mother is planning a menu for your birthday. She plan to serve
pork barbeque and chicken nuggets. She expects to serve at least 50
kilograms of meat. The pork (P) costs 200.00 pesos per kilograms and
the chicken (C) meat costs 180.00 pesos per kilograms. She has a
budget of at most 10,000.00 for meet on your birthday.
6
a. Complete the following system of linear inequalities P kilograms of pork
and C chicken meat that your mother could prepare on your birthday.
𝑃 + 𝐶 ≥ ________
____ • 𝑃 + _____ • 𝐶 ≤ 10,000
c. In what quadrant should your graph be for the solution of the system
to make sense? Explain.
The size of basketball floors varies due to building sizes and other
concerns such as cost, ect. The length L is to be at most 94 ft. and the width
W is to be at most 50 ft. Graph a system of linear inequalities that describes
the possible dimensions of the basketball floor.

EVALUATION
Investment
2. Mr. Santos is planning to invest up to 250,000 in Bank A or Bank B or
both. He wants to invest at least 30,000 pesos but no more than
120,000 pesos in Bank A. Bank B does not insure more than 150,000
pesos so he invest no more than that in Bank B. Find a system of
inequalities that describes the choices available to Mr. Santos.
Represent the choices graphically.
