The eWTS scheme introduces two groups for HEAVY category ACFT namely B and C and three
groups for MEDIUM ACFT namely D, E and F. It also integrates the SUPER JUMBO/HEAVY
category or group namely A.

The separations in the WT groups contained in Tables 3 & 4 shall be applied when the ACFT
are using:
1) The same RWY;
2) Parallel RWYs separated by less than 760m;
3) If the projected flight path of the second ACFT will cross the projected flight path
of the first ACFT at the same altitude or less than 1,000' below.
3. IMPACT ON PILOT PROCEDURES
The implementation of eWTS minima will not affect pilot procedures in any way.
Approach Phase
In the approach phase pilots will probably notice the separation reduction. Consequently, it is
therefore important to comply with ATC speed instructions at all times particularly to maintain
the speed on final approach as assigned by ATC. If for any reason, a speed cannot be maintained
then the pilot must inform ATC as soon as possible.
Table 5: Separation minima for the main types of Heavy/Medium ACFT flying within the
DUBAI CTA and to/from OMDB/OMDW/OMSJ

A380 7 NM 5 NM
B777 A320/B738 5 NM 4 NM
A300/A310/B767/MD11 5 NM 3 NM
Pilots should communicate the correct ACFT type (including series) on first contact with
DUBAI ARRIVALS.
Departing Aircraft
eWTS time based WT separation will be applied. If pilots require more separation than the
eWTS RECAT standard, or extra time for any other reason, advise ATC early PRIOR to entering
the runway, NOT when on the RWY. When informed, ATC will be able to make changes in the
departure sequence, if necessary, to minimise delays to other succeeding departures. Once
ATC issues a take-off clearance, if there is any unreasonable delay in the ACFT commencing
the take-off roll, ATC may cancel the take-off clearance and reposition the ACFT in the
departure sequence.
When cleared for take-off, the controller will expect and will have planned on seeing movement
within 8 to 10 seconds of the take-off clearance being issued.
5. LIVE TRIALS
Until final implementation of ICAO eWTS, Pilots/crews of all operators should be aware of the
reduced approach phase wake turbulence separation trials that are currently in progress
between:
EMIRATES Airlines Heavy Category ACFT in trail to other Heavy Category ACFT;
All B777 Heavy Category ACFT following other B777 Heavy Category ACFT; and
Flydubai Medium Category ACFT in trail to other Heavy Category ACFT.
Note: Periods when trial is active will be notified by ATIS.
