Every year on 26th January, India celebrates its Republic Day. Republic day holds significance in Indian history as on this day, in
1950, the Constitution of India came into force. The main celebrations are held at the national capital, New Delhi, at Rajpath.

Commencing at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the parade proceeds past the India Gate and India's defence capability, social and
cultural heritage is showcased. Every year India hosts heads of states as chief guests for Republic Day. This year Jair Bolsonaro,
president of Brazil is the chief guest.

MAJOR RISKS

GENERAL TERROR TRAVEL

§ All major metro cities of India, Delhi,
Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore,
Ahmedabad and Hyderabad will be on
high alert and security will be
increased.
§ Jammu Kashmir and northeast India
i.e. Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur,
Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh,
Sikkim and Nagaland will witness
enhanced security.
§ High alert warnings are issued to all
state capitals, economic hubs,
industrial establishments and critical
infrastructure including all airports
and railway stations.
§ On 16 January, Srinagar police
arrested five persons belonging to
Pakistan terror outfit Jaish-e-
Mohammed. The police recovered a
large cache of explosives and suicide
vests, thus averting a major terror
attack ahead of Republic Day.
§ A crude explosive device was found at
Bajpe airport in Mangaluru on 20
January.
§ Commissioner of Delhi Police has
underlined various anti-terror
measures such as tenant verification,
checking of hotels & guest houses, and
overall security arrangement.
§ Due to Republic Day celebrations, no
flight operations will take place at the
Delhi airport between 1035h and
1215h on 23-24 & 26 January.
§ Delhi Traffic Police has imposed
restrictions on vehicular movement at
Rafi Marg, Janpath and Mansingh
Road from 0900h to 1200h on the
specified dates.
§ Traffic diversions and enhanced
security measures can be expected in
areas where Republic Day parade in
held across the country.

RECOMMENDATIONS

GENERAL
§ Due diligence while travelling to sensitive areas like Jammu
Kashmir, Northeastern states and Maoist-affected areas due
to the high risk of terror attacks.
§ Cater for additional travel time in view of traffic restrictions
in the national and state capitals.
§ Expect heightened security checks at airports, railway
stations and other transit points.
§ Be aware of your surroundings and belongings at metro, bus
and railway stations. Report any suspicious activity or
unattended belongings to the concerned authorities.
§ In New Delhi, anticipate traffic and road congestions around
India Gate and the parade route; follow the traffic diversion
advisory to be issued by Delhi Traffic Police.
TRAVEL
§ Cooperate with security agencies in wake of the heightened
security measures.
§ Avoid large crowds, busy market areas or popular places that
may be potential targets.
§ Ensure personal safety; keep emergency contacts ready and
other people informed about your whereabouts.
§ Stay aware of restricted areas as mentioned by city police
advisories.
§ To avoid inconvenience, be aware of the restrictions on
articles allowed to be carried around the parade areas. Usual
restrictions are on cameras, binoculars, transistors, cigarette
lighters, large bags and briefcases, and other electronic
devices.
