INTRODUCTION

Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim


Mindanao (BARMM)
• BARMM is an autonomous region in Mindanao
comprised of 5 provinces: Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur,
Sulu, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi.
• The City of Cotabato is its regional center.
• It is the only territory in the Philippines that is Muslim-
majority in a Christian-majority country.
• BARMM was formed replacing the previous ARMM
because of the signing of the Bangsamoro Organic
Law.
• The Congress of the Philippines established a basic law
for the BARMM called Bangsamoro Organic Law which
was passed on July 26, 2018 by President Rodrigo
Duterte.

Housing (2020 CPH), about 4,404,288 people reside in
BARMM as of May 01, 2020.
• Among the five provinces of BARMM, Maguindanao has
the highest population of 1,342,179 people, and Basilan
has the smallest population of 426,207 people.

Housing (2020 CPH), about 4,404,288 people reside in
BARMM as of May 01, 2020.
• Among the five provinces of BARMM, Maguindanao has
the highest population of 1,342,179 people, and Basilan
has the smallest population of 426,207 people.
• In terms of the most populated cities in BARMM, the
Marawi City in Lanao del Sur has the largest population.

ranked first in the least populated cities/municipalities in
BARMM.

ETHNICGROUPS
• There are at least 13 distinct ethnolinguistic groups
that comprise the Moro people.
• Each one has its respective identity as well
as a separate institutional tradition.

• There are also Lumad or several non-Muslim


indigenous people residing in BARMM and also in
the rest of Mindanao.
