platforms to provide its users with consolidated information of their solar power plants. It provides
real-time information on generation, system performance, consumption, current and historical all in
one platform.
Users can also check how much savings have been carried out due to self-consumption and exported
energy. The imbedded system easily checks ROI and savings from the system installation. Another
feature is that with an in-built alarm management, users can now subscribe to Alarms and know if
there is something wrong with the system, notify the fb energy team and track the resolution time.
With this application, our O&M team is just a click away.

Preventative Maintenance Manual

Maintenance of Solar PV Modules

Solar PV modules require cleaning on a periodic basis to remove dust from the surface. A clean
module will achieve a higher conversion efficiency as more light will fall on solar cells and converted
into DC current and not absorbed by the soiling layer on the surface. The period of cleaning activity
depends on the geographical region and local environmental conditions.
It is recommended that the PV modules are cleaned on a weekly basis, using the cleaning brushes
and wiper.

Maintenance instructions

• Do a visual inspection for the signs of cracks and black spots of PV panels before starting the
maintenance activity.
• Use clean and soft water having moderate pressure along with soft brush for cleaning, avoid the
dry cleaning as it might cause scratches on the glass.
• If there is greasy dirt or any other such substances on the surface of the PV module which are
difficult to clean, conventional household glass cleaning agents can be used but do not use
alkaline or strong acid solvents.
• Best practice is to start the cleaning from top so that water will rinse down automatically.
• The best time for cleaning is either at the break of dawn or at the sunset as on the other timings
the panel would be hot and spraying cold water may cause cracks on the panel surface.
• After rinsing water, the dirt deposits should be cleared with a wet sponge or wiper.
• Trim any vegetation which may shade the solar modules.

What to avoid when cleaning PV panels?

Certain cleaning products can damage the solar panels and should therefore be avoided:
• Never use sharp, pointed, or abrasive materials as it might damage the panel.
• Never attempt to clean the PV panel if the module has a broken glass or exposed wiring as it might
give you an electric shock.
• If you find broken glass or exposed wiring, contact fb energy Customer Care Center immediately.

13
• When cleaning the Solar panels do not spray on the backside of the module or at the cables.
• Keep the MC4 connectors clean and dry.

• Hard water/Saline Water can leave white residue that diminishes photovoltaic output.
• Using very cold water on a warm panel can result in thermal shock and permanently damage the
solar panel.
• Very high-pressure water can damage the joints in the panel frame. Kärcher-type high-pressure
cleaners must therefore be avoided.
• Solvents and detergents may damage the surface of the solar collectors.
• Do not walk, throw anything, or place additional weight on the surface of the PV panels.

Hazards

The hazards related to solar modules include the risk of:

1. Presence of electric shock, wear rubber gloves to avoid it.
2. Falling from the roof when performing maintenance so make sure proper barrication or parapet
wall is present.

Maintenance of Inverter

Purpose of regular inspection is to maintain an appropriate surrounding environment to ensure that

the system continues to operate optimally.

Frequency

PV Inverters should be cleaned on bi-annual basis.

Maintenance Procedures

• Check the hanging structure of the inverter and the position of inverter.
• Observe the inverter for any abnormal sound that could be due to transformer, magnetic
contactor, relay or cooling fan, rodent, cracks, debris, dust, black spot, rust, or trace of water.
• If you find any abnormality in the inverter, kindly contact fb energy Customer Care Center.
• Check the inverter indications and LED panels for any sign of error/fault.

14
• Observe whether the air inlet/outlet is normal and there is no dust or debris present, check
whether there are any cracks on the fan leaf, clean the air inlet/outlet, if necessary, clean up dust
and soil by using vacuum cleaner.
• Check whether the cable entry is insufficiently sealed, or the gap is excessively large, if it is the
case, it should be resealed so that there is no chance of any rodent ingress.
• Check the inverter outside body and note the temperature with Thunder Solar application,
maximum temperature of the inverter should not exceed 60°C.
• Check if any wire terminal screws are loosened, if any wire is loose, tighten it with a screwdriver.
• Check if the cables and terminals have any damage and that the insulation is still reliable.
• Check the power on and power off feature of inverter: use monitoring software or LCD and
keyboard on the inverter (if your model features the latter two), turn "off" and "on", to confirm
that the off-on functionality is working correctly, at the same time, make sure that the
monitoring software can regularly communicate with the inverter, check the warning label
on/around the inverter, and replace it if necessary.

Hazards

1. Electric shock should be prevented by switching off the inverter before starting the maintenance
activity.

Maintenance of Mounting Structure

Mounting structures should be inspected every 3 months.

Maintenance Procedures

• Switch off the main breaker before performing the maintenance activity.
• Perform a visual inspection of the mounting structure and identify any signs of rust, corrosion,
pitting, black spots.
• Check the traces of rodents, if any.
• In case of rust, use the sandpaper to remove the rust followed by painting the structure from
where it is being rusted.
• Look for the vegetation near or below the structure as it might lead to ground fault.

15
• Identify the animal shelter under the array as animals tend to build shelter in cool and shady
places. If found, then remove it with proper care.
• Check the tightening of bolts of structure and tighten if needed.

Hazards

1. Risk of fall is present so ensure that proper barrication is done or parapet wall is present.
2. Do not touch the mounting structure without switching off the solar system, else the risk of
ground fault is present.

Maintenance of LV Panel

LV Panels should be inspected on a 3-month basis.

Maintenance Procedures

• Listen for any abnormal sound of popping, spitting, or cracking that might be produced by
electrical discharges also look out for any humming noises or vibrations produced by resonance.
• Do a quick check to ensure that all the indications and meters are working properly.
• Switch off the LV panels by de-energizing the DB and AC breaker.
• Perform the visual inspection of the panel’s exterior for any marks of cracks, breaks,
delamination, rust, water, or rodent ingress.
• Ensure that the sealing and locks of the panels are 100% perfect and there is no chance of water
or rodent ingress.
• Open the panels and perform the cleaning with the help of a vacuum blower to remove the dust.
• Identify the traces of water or rodent ingress and ensure that there is no debris, carbon tracks,
moisture stains, black spots, or rust present.
• Make sure that there are no hanging and naked wires inside the panel.
• Visually check the health of cable’s insulation health and identify black spots, if any.
• Rectify any loose connections by tightening them up with the help of a screwdriver.
• Check the cable terminations and physical condition of cable glands.
• If something seems wrong, please inform fb energy Customer Care Center instead of trying to
resolve yourself.

16
Hazards

1. Electric Shock should be avoided by following the safety guidelines as mentioned above.

Emergency Shutdown

In case of any abnormality, disconnect and isolate the PV system by turning off the AC MCB in the LV
panel. In case DC disconnection is required, isolate the string with the use of DC isolators situated
underneath the inverter.
Following successful isolation, contact our fb energy Customer Care Center and keep the system
switched off until the team arrives to resolve the issue.
