Task 1: The chart shows the results of surveys in one African country asking teenagers

the main reasons for using their phones between 2016 and 2019.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make
comparisons where relevant.

The four pie charts compare the survey data from one African nation’s adolescents about
the major reasons for using their phones from 2016 to 2019.
It is obvious that the most popular reason for using phones was accessing social network
throughout the whole given period. It is aslo noticeable that phone calls were the least
used feature.
Looking more detail, in 2016, a half of respondents state that the reason why they use
their phones is for social network. After declining slightly to 48%, the figure for social
network rose to 56% in 2018, which was accounted far higher percentage than others
purposes. In contrast, mere one of ten African teenagers used their phones for calling
purposes in 2016, but by the end of the period, the figure for this decreased by a half.
In 2016, a quarter of adolescents chose email for the main reasons of using phones then it
witnessed a drop of 6% in the next 4 years. There was a growth in the proportion of
digital camera, from 15% to 20% between 2016 and 2019.
Task 2: Studies suggest that many teenagers these days prefer socialising online to
meeting one another in person. Why do you think this is the case? What measures could
be taken to encourage teenagers to spend more time one another in person.
It is true that social networks become more popular with teenagers, comparing to face-to-
face communicating. There are a number of reasons behind this tendency and several
solutions should be adopted to improve the situation.
There are two primary reasons why the socialising online has become most teenagers’
prefered. In the first place, with the development of technology, many different platforms
are widespread as a favourable tool for communication. With wireless network,
adolescents can interact through technogical gadgets to widen their social relationship
whenever and wherever they are. According to that convenice, instead of meeting people
in-person, teenagers can use video conferencing in many social apps such as Facebook,
Instagram, Zalo… Other reason is that introverted people think that online meetings are
more suitable for them. Many teenagers often feel shy and self-consious when they
communicate with others directly, therefore, they choose social network to advoid having
a directly coversation.
Fortunately, numerous methods may be used to encourage adolescents to spend more
time in person with one another. To begin with, setting up the time limit for using social
network applications is one of the measures. Based on it, parents may supervise the
amount of times that teens use the Internet, therefore, socialising online can be replaced.
Another solution would be creating offline events for teenagers. There will more direct
interaction if adolescents have activities to have the oppornity to engage face-to-face with
each other.
In conclusion, it is clear that there are various reasons for lack of direct interaction in
teenagers and steps need to be taken to tackle this phenomenon.
