3D Part - 3

Aim :
To generate a 3D part module of Fork end rod (Knuckle joint) shown below with
given dimensions using Solid edge software.

Objectives :
1) To understand the 3D part modelling in the solid edge software.
2) To understand the interface and various commands included in the 3D part
modelling of the solid edge.
3) To understand the importance of the constraints used in the software.
4) The importance of constraints while creating 3D part modelling.

Tools used:
Sketch : It is on a 2D platform where we can draw various kinds of 2D sketches.
Line : It is used to draw a line at defined point with desired length.
Geometrical Constraints : It is used to give coincidence, parallelism,
perpendicularity etc.
Dimensional Constraints : It is used to give distance ,angle.
Zoom In /Out : It is used to zoom the required point on the interface.
Quick Trim : It is used to erase the unnecessary or excess parts of the geometry.
Extrude: Creates a 3D solid from an 2D sketch that encloses an area, or a 3D
surface from an objects with open ends.
Cut: It is used to cut the solids in desired shape.
Revolve Extrude: It is used to extrude object with respective to the reference
line up to our desired angle.
Hole: It is used to put the holes on the extruded 2D sketch with desired
dimensions.
Revolve cut: It is used to cut the solid in a circular shape with desired angle.

Procedure :
1) The sketch option has been clicked and front (xz) plane was selected, the
interface has changed to 2D environment.
2) The outline of top view of the figure has been drawn using line command and
the dimensions were given accordingly.
3) Figure was constrained with the origin in order to fix the coordinates, as
shown in the below sketch.

4)The drawn 2D sketch is protruded up to the distance of 26 using extrude

option.

5) The circle of diameter 40 is drawn on one side of the fork and is extruded up
to the distance of 17 .

6) Now the extruded part is copied to the opposite side by using mirror tool, as

Shown in the below figures.

7) The hole of diameter 20 is drilled on the surface of fork all through the solid
using hole option

.

8) Now the circle of diameter 30 is drawn on handle of the fork and the part
outside of the circle is removed using cut tool, as shown below.

9) The circle of diameter 20 is drawn on the back of the fork and it is protruded
up to the distance 40 using extrude option.

10) The round is applied to the 4 corners of the fork at the handle using round
option.
11) The part modelling of the fork is completed.

Outcomes:
1) Commands like extrude, revolve extrude, cut, revolve cut, hole , round are
used to create the 3D parts.
2) Geometrical constraints like coincidence, parallelism, horizontal, vertical etc
used to apply relations over objects.
Result :
3D module of the given part is developed as shown below using 3D modelling of
the solid edge software
