Math 3 - Trigonometry Summary

Here is a summary of all of the trigonometry concepts that you will need for
this course. Note that there are other concepts from trigonometry that you will
need if you go on in mathematics, but they will not be reviewed for this course.
Note: In order for the calculus formulas we will learn to be true, angles
must be measured in radians (we will see why when we start calculus). If
you prefer to work in degrees, you must convert to radians before supplying
answers.

• Solving right triangles using trigonometric and inverse trigonometric func-

tions (SOH CAH TOA)
• Evaluating trigonometric functions at θ = 0:
– sin 0 = 0
– cos 0 = 1
– tan 0 = 0
• Use the following identities to simplify expressions:
1 1 1
csc θ = sec θ = cot θ =
sin θ cos θ tan θ
sin θ cos θ
tan θ = cot θ =
cos θ sin θ
cos2 θ + sin2 θ = 1, or the equivalent form sin2 θ = 1 − cos2 θ
