CM530 CENSE™ Module - Unable to Connect to

Module Using INSITE™ for CENSE™ on Generator
Sets Using Cummins® Power Generation Generator
Interface Box (GIB).
Core Issue
Cummins Inc. have received reports from the field of communication problems when attempting to
connect to the CM530 CENSE™ module using INSITE™ for CENSE™ on generator sets that use
the Cummins® power generation generator interface box (GIB) with generator control panel 2
(GCP2)/PCS3100 or the Cummins® PCC3300 generator set controllers.

Confirmation
This document only applies to generator sets that are fitted with the Cummins® power generation
GIB with GCP2/PCS3100 or PCC3300 generator set controllers and where the engine uses the
CM530 CENSE™ module for exhaust temperature monitoring.
This document does not apply to QSK60G single turbocharger engines that use two CM850
modules for exhaust temperature monitoring.
The generator interface box (GIB) is used across all QSV81/91G and QSK60G high horsepower
lean-burn natural gas (HHP LBNG) generator sets.
For generator sets fitted with CM850 modules, the communication network utilizes the same
connection pins within the GIB as generator sets fitted with CM530 CENSE™ modules.
CM850 modules use a J1939 communication network for downloading calibrations, for which a
network termination resistor of 120 ohms is required.
The 120 ohm resistor is installed in the GIB as standard, regardless of the type of module used for
exhaust temperature monitoring. Therefore, for engines using CM530 CENSE™ modules, this
120 ohm network termination resistor must be removed prior to using the RS232 communication
interface. It is not necessary to refit the 120 ohm resistor following a calibration download.

Resolution
Connection of INSITE™ for CENSE™ to the CM530 CENSE™ made by using the RS232
connector (labeled STCD) that is on the service panel located in the customer interface
compartment of the GIB.

The generator interface box (GIB) with PCC3300 controller is used across all QSV91G and
QSK60G high horsepower lean-burn natural gas (HHP LBNG) generator sets manufactured from
01-January-2009.
For engines using CM530 CENSE™ Modules, this 120 ohm network termination resistor must
be removed prior to using the RS232 communication interface. The resistor is located across
terminals CM4 and CM5.

Location of 120 Ohm Termination Resistor (CM4 and CM5)

The generator interface box (GIB) used with GCP2 / PCS3100 generator set controller was used
across all QSK60G HHP LBNG generator sets manufactured from 01-January-2006. Connection
of INSITE™ for CENSE™ to the CM530 CENSE™ made by using the RS232 connector (labeled
RS232) that is located on the base of the GIB.

For engines using CM530 CENSE™ Modules, this 120 ohm network termination resistor must
be removed prior to using the RS232 communication interface. The resistor is located across
terminals CM10 and CM11.
