I. Background of the Study (Introduction)

In these days internet and computer has become a major part of our daily life.
Sharing our views, ideas and our lives by using internet with other people, has
change a lot in the way we work, study and spend our free time. According to
Ahmad Fawaz Alzaghoul (2002), “Delivery of education including the activities of
instruction, teaching, learning and assessment through various electronic media is
called E-learning. E-learning helps the learner to get knowledge at a distance
through internet. E-learning enables people to learn at any time and at any place,
for this we need a computer and an internet connection” Chorng-Chyang Ong et-al
(2003).

Unfortunately, little is known of the effects of different e-learning activities and

technologies on student intrinsic motivation even though we have sought to create
programs with that in mind (Hodges 2004). Technology-supported individual
learning activities include: (1) video lectures available in self-selected segments;
and (2) other interactive learning materials (e.g., slides, interactive short
questions/answers, references or hot links to other Web sites).

Learners who can generate their own intrinsic motivation do not have to rely on
the personalized external stimuli that are more challenging to provide in an e-
learning context: “Task participation is its own reward and does not depend on
explicit rewards or other external constraints” (Schunk, et al., 2014). In addition,
intrinsic motivation is persistent: “creating an intrinsic goal in fifth- and sixth-grade
students leads to better persistence and conceptual learning than does providing
them with an extrinsic goal.” Learners who accomplish challenges of intermediate
difficulty perceive their competence, “which raises their self-efficacy and perceived
control over outcomes.” (Schunk, et al., 2014). Keller’s (1987) ARCS model
describes the attainment of self-confidence as allowing “students opportunity to
become increasingly independent in learning.” This independence, which can be
expressed as a “desire for autonomy”, (Schunk, et al., 2014), is a quality of intrinsic
motivation.

II. Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the effects of E-Learning on Intrinsic Motivation

of Grade 11 Accountancy Business Management (ABM) students in Agusan Sur
National High School.

Specifically, it intends to answer the following questions:

1. What is the level of E-learning of Grade 11 Accountancy Business

Management (ABM) students in Agusan Sur National High School for
S.Y. 2020 – 2021?
2. What is the level of Intrinsic Motivation of Grade 11 Accountancy
Business Management (ABM) students in Agusan Sur National High
School for S.Y. 2020 – 2021?
3. How does the E-learning affect the Intrinsic Motivation of Grade 11
Accountancy Business Management (ABM) students in Agusan Sur
National High School for S.Y. 2020 – 2021?

III. Scope and Delimitation of the Study

This study covers the Students of Agusan Sur National High School in Barangay
5, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. However, it includes only the Grade 11
Accountancy Business Management (ABM) students who enrolled in school year
2020 – 2021. By determining the E-learning, the researchers are going to use the E-
learning Evaluation Survey. In getting the Intrinsic Motivation of the students, the
researches will use the Intrinsic Motivation (IM) Scale.

IV. Significance of the study

The findings of this study could provide a database that can be used as a tangible
reference for more meaningful educational services. It will be redounding to the
benefit of societies considering that E-learning continuously performed in the midst
of pandemic.

The gathered findings of this study will be beneficial to the following:

School Administrator. The result of the study could serve as a baseline data to
improve programs for school advancements.

Teachers. This study will give awareness regarding the effects of E-learning on
Intrinsic Motivation of the students. Through this study, they will be able to
come up with different techniques and develop educational material which may
strengthen learning in meaningful contexts.

Students. This study will be beneficial to the students because they will be able
to know the reason why E-learning affected by their Intrinsic Motivation and
will take active part in their learning by joining activities that will boost their
motivation.

Parents. This study will help the parents to understand the effects of E-learning
on Intrinsic Motivation of their children. Through this study, they will be able
to support and encourage their children participating in any online learning
activities.
Future Researchers. The outcome of this study will be beneficial to the future
researchers because it may serve this as a guidance to gather information and as
a building blocks to have a bigger study. This study will provide baseline data
needed for future researchers and studies related to this topic.
