Company Analysis

Identify a company that you would like to analyze. Let the company be ideally a Public
limited company. Analyze the company that you have chosen with the help of the following
information-

Part A – Industry Overview


 In which industry does the company operate in? What are the main characteristics of
the industry?
 What kind of Political, Economic, social, Technological, Legal and Environmental
factors are affecting the industry? What has been the impact of each of these factors?
 Who are the key players in the industry? Give a brief summary of each of these key
players
 What is the market share of various players in the industry?
 What has been the growth rate of the industry in the last 10 years? What factors are
driving the industry?
 What are the future prospects and scenario in the industry?

Part B- Company Profile


 History of the company and key milestones in the journey of the company.
 What is the mission and vision of the company?
 Who are the promoters and what is the ownership pattern of the company?
 Can you analyze the company using McKinseys 7S framework?
 Does the company have any global operations? In which of the countries the company
operates?
 Do they undertake any CSR practices? How much money is invested by the company
in CSR programs?
 How does the company fulfill its social, environmental and governance obligations?
 Do they publish any Sustainability Reports? What are the focus areas in these reports?

Part C- Functional Areas of the company


i) HRM system in the company
o What is the total number of employees in the company;
o Description about the HR practices adopted by the company (Recruitment,
Selection, Training etc)
o Any Innovative HR initiatives taken by the company

ii) Marketing activities of the company


 Which market does the company operate in?
 Who are the target markets?
 What products are sold by the company?
 Write about their Marketing strategies ( 4 Ps or 7 Ps)
i. Target market and/or positioning changes
ii. Product decisions
iii. Pricing decisions
iv. Distribution decisions
v. Promotion decisions
iii) Financial Analysis of the company
a. What is their market capitalization? Has it increased over a period of time?
b. Has the revenue of the company grown for the last 5 years? If Yes/No, what
are the reasons?
c. Can you analyze the company’s performance based on the profitability ratios?
What could be the reasons for the changes in profitability of the company?
d. Is the firm earning enough returns to the shareholders? How did the company
perform in the stock market for the last 5 yearrs
e. How is the financial health of the company? Please use appropriate tables to
represent the data.

iv) Operations and Logistics


a. Who are the Vendors/ suppliers of the company? To what extent the company
depends on their suppliers?
b. Are there any innovative production system or quality management system
adopted by the company?

Part D: Summary of your findings and Conclusion

Report preparation guidelines to the students.

1. Please use only reliable sources such as company websites, Bloomberg, CII or any
other trusted sources for collecting data.
2. The data collected will have to be submitted in the pdf form.
3. Avoid plagiarism.
4. The report can be typed in MS Word (or suitable word processing software) with the
following details
a. Font- Times New Roman
b. Size- Main heading-16, Side heading-14; Text-12.
c. Line spacing- 1.5
d. Margin- 1 inch on all sides.
5. Proper references to be given in the report. Harvard style of referencing can be used
for Bibliography.
