1 Danger
2 The Brush-tailed possum peeped out from inside the
3 roof. It was dark and quiet in the garden. The people
4 inside the house were asleep. The possum’s big eyes
5 looked for danger. Everything was still and quiet.
6 She climbed down the pipe and jumped onto the
7 fence. Then she walked along the top of the fence.
8 She was looking for flowers and fruits to eat. Her
9 baby was on her back.
10 Then, suddenly: “Tinkle-tinkle-tinkle-tinkle.” Danger!
11 It was the scary cat.

3 Good news!
4 Peter the pelican is going back to the wild.
5 Peter was brought here two months ago. He was very sick. Poor Peter had tried to eat
6 a fish that had a hook in it. The fishhook had cut the inside of Peter’s pouch and throat
7 and then got stuck in his throat.
8 Our wonderful vet fixed Peter. She got the hook out and stitched up Peter’s throat.
9 Peter is now well and ready to go home.
10 Staff will take Peter back to where he was found and set him free today.

1 Treasure hunter
2 The tiny pixie stood under a flower in the shade.
3 He looked at his treasure map. The map showed
4 that the treasure was in a cave at the top of the
5 mountain. He looked up to the top of the mountain.
6 It was a long way up.
7 How could he get there? It was too far for his tiny
8 legs to walk. He wished he had a donkey—but he
9 was frightened of donkeys.
10 He looked up to the top of the mountain again.
11 He wished he could fly.
12 Just then he saw a crow in a tree nearby. Maybe
13 the crow would help him. He would offer the crow a
14 share of his treasure.

1 Help!
2 The two Rockhopper penguins trembled
3 on the ice floe. They thought they were
4 in big trouble. The orcas looked hungry.
5 It was only a matter of time before the
6 orcas started to bump the ice floe to tip
7 the penguins into the sea.
8 “I’m frightened,” said Hopper.
9 “Me too,” said Rocky. He put his wing
10 around her.
11 Just then the penguins spotted
12 an albatross. Hopper cried out,
13 “Help! Help!”
14 The albatross glided down. “One at
15 a time, little penguins,” she said. She
16 grabbed one of Hopper’s little wings in
17 her large pink beak. Then she flew away.
1 Sunflowers
2 Sunflowers have long, sticky stems and bright yellow
3 flower heads. They are easy to grow. Just plant the seeds
4 in the soil during spring or at the beginning of summer.
5 Make sure you choose a sunny spot. Sunflowers like the
6 sun. Give them lots of water and your sunflower plants will
7 be fully grown after a few months.
8 Interesting sunflower fact: the flower heads move. They
9 move so that they follow the sun from the east to the west
10 during the day. At night, they return to face the east. They
11 stay that way until the sun comes up the next morning.
12 The University of Queensland has a sunflower-growing competition every year.
