RAMADHAN
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Islam is
built upon five: to worship Allah and to disbelieve in what is worshipped

2 besides him, to establish prayer, to give charity, to perform hajj pilgrimage to

the house, and to fast the month of Ramadan.”
{Bukhari and Muslim}
Colour popsicle sticks and glue them on top of each pillar name.
This house is kept up by its foundations, just as our faith is built
upon these 5 Pillars.

1. Cut a paper plate into the shape of a moon and

paint it.
2. Paint and decorate the stars. Use a hole puncher
and string to attach these to the moon.
Memorise the du'a for breaking the fast.

4 The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “There are
three whose dua is not rejected – a just ruler, the fasting person
when he breaks his fast, and the prayer of the oppressed person. It
rises above the clouds and the gates of heaven are opened for it,
and the Lord, may He be glorified, says, ‘By My Glory, I will answer
you even if it is after a while.’"
{at-Tirmidhi}

When the Messenger of Allah, peace and

blessings be upon him, broke his fast, he
would say:

{Bukhari and Muslim}

What does your family eat for suhoor?

Draw it, or create it on the plate below out of craft supplies you have available.

The Reward for

Siyam is with Allah
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,

9 "Whoever fasts Ramadan with faith and seeking [Allah’s] reward

will have whatever preceded of his sins forgiven."
{Ahmad}

Cover this heart with small black

dots using paint and a cotton
earbud, just as our hearts
become blackened with sin.
Place a split pin here.

We can be purified of sin, by fasting

Ramadan with sincerity and faith,
hoping in Allah's reward. Just as this
heart becomes white and pure again.

Whoever fasts Ramadan with

faith and seeking [Allah’s] reward
will have whatever preceded of
his sin forgiven.
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to
break his fast with fresh dates before praying; if there were no (fresh

10 dates) then with dry dates, and if there were no (dried dates) then he
would take a few sips of water.
{Abu Dawood and Tirmidhi - sahih}

Draw pictures in the diagram to represent how the the Messenger of Allah, peace and
blessings be upon him, would break his fast with:

1. Fresh Dates

2. Dried Dates

3. Water
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Fasting

11 is a shield with which a servant protects himself from the Fire.”

{At-Tabarani, Ahmad, An-Nasa’i}

Stick bits of aluminium foil on your shield until the

sheild is covered.
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Paradise

An ‘umrah during Ramadan is equal [in reward] to a hajj.
{Ahmad and al-Bukhari}

The kaaba is central to both our Umrah and Hajj worship.

Colour, paint or decorate the kaaba.

Ramadan Umrah = Hajj Reward

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,

Read and discuss Surah Qadr which speaks of The Night of

the Exalted, dedicated a whole surah on it.

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to observe

21 i‘tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan until Allah took his soul,
and then his wives observed it after that.
{Al-Bukhari and Muslim}

I'tikaf, is when one secludes himself in the masjid for a particular amount of time. This is
done so as they can make as much ibaadah as possible and reflect with the least
amount of distraction.

Use pipe cleaners (chenille sticks) to make your own masjid.

Verily, the month of Ramadan has come to you all. It is a
blessed month, which Allah has obligated you all to fast.
22 During it the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell
are closed and the devils are shackled. In it there is a night that
is better than one thousand months. Whoever is deprived of
its good, then he has truly been deprived.
{Ahmad}
A thousand months! That’s more than eighty three years. That means that if
you pray two rakat of voluntary prayer on this night, you will get the reward of
praying two rakat voluntary prayer every night for eighty three years.

Colour in the Picture below.

Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, reported: I asked: “O
23 Messenger of Allah! If I realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree),
what should I supplicate in it?” He, peace and blessings be
upon him, replied, “You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka
‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, You are Most
Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).”
{At-Tirmidhi}

Memorise the du'a below and decorate the border.

Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said, "With the start of the
last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet, peace and blessings be
upon him, used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. work hard) and used
to perform Salah all the night, and used to keep his family
awake for Salah.
{Bukhari}

Colour the belt in below and make the

25 “The Night of Decree is a calm night, neither hot nor cold and the
sun arises on it [the next morning] red and feeble.”
{Ibn Khuzaymah}

Below is a photo of a sunrise that is red and feeble.

Recreate this photo by making a painting of it.
Fasting six days of Shawwal after completing the obligatory fast

26
of Ramadan is a recommended sunnah. The Messenger of Allah,
peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever fasts Ramadan
and then follows it with six days from Shawwal – it will be as if he
fasted for all time.”
{Muslim, Abu Dáwúd, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasá’i and Ibn Májah}

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained this when he said:
“Whoever fasts for six days after Eid al-Fitr has completed the year:

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, made it an

27 obligation to pay charity at the end of Ramadan, a portion of dates

or barley, upon the slave and the freeman, the male and female, the
young and the old among the Muslims. The Prophet ordered it to be
given before people go out for the Eid prayer.
{Bukhari and Muslim}

Paying Zakaat ul Fitr

The head of the household is to pay zakaat ul fitr on
behalf of all members of the family. Zakaat ul fitr is equal
to one saa' of the staple food of the area you live in
which is calculated as four complete scoops, scooped up
by two hands, the equivalent of approximately 3kg. This
is to be paid to the poor and needy before Eid prayer so
that they can also enjoy the day of Eid.
What are some of the staple foods in the area you
live in? Glue these foods directly on top of the sacks
below.
We have flour, lentils
and rice.
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
arrived in Medina during two days in which they were
28 celebrating. The Prophet said, “What are these two days?”
They said, “We would celebrate these two days in the time of
ignorance.” The Prophet said, “Verily, Allah has replaced these
two days with two better days: Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr.”
{Abu Dawud}

It's almost Eid alhamdulillah!

1. Using PVA glue, join 5 popsicle sticks together to make a star. You may want
to use a peg or clip to keep the tips in place until the glue dries.
2. Decorate them once they are dry.
Aisha reported, Abu Bakr came to her on the day of Eid while the
Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was with her and
29 there were two girls singing songs of the Ansar on the day of
Bu’ath. Abu Bakr said twice, “Musical instruments of Satan!” The
Prophet said, “Leave them Abu Bakr. Verily, every community
has a celebration and this day is our celebration.”
{Bukhari and Muslim}

Eid decorations
Using the templates on the next page, decorate the moons to hang up
around your house. We have used strips of decorative washi tape to do this.

Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whenever
you sight the new moon (of the month of Ramadan) observe fast,
and when you sight it (the new moon of Shawwal) break it, and if
the sky is cloudy for you, then observe fast for thirty days.
{Muslim}
