Introduction
▸ The spread of pandemic Covid-19 has drastically disrupted every aspects of
human life including education.
▸ In India, about 32 crore learners stopped going to schools/colleges.
▸ The sudden shift of education from classroom learning to online learning has
affected both the teaching as well as the learning process

Current Scenario
▸ Not a very long ago, several leaders of reputed global universities held strong opinion
that, online mode of teaching could never match with class-room teaching environment
▸ Educational institutions directed teachers to engage classes through online mode
using the virtual meeting platforms like Zoom & Google meet.
▸ The teachers who were not well versed with modern technology and mobile
applications had to struggle a lot to engage online classes due to the sudden shift
from face to face teaching to online teaching.
▸ 3 Numbers of Indian students get them enrolled in reputed foreign universities every
year are worst affected by the pandemic due to which student travel and exchange
has seen a drastic decrease

Financial Aspect
▸ The economic shock associated with the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to be
significantly larger than anything seen since the financial crisis of 2008/09.
▸ In 2020-2021,the budgeted estimate for the Ministry of Education was Rs 99,312
crore,which was revised to Rs 85,089 crore (Reduction of 6.13%).
▸ Institutions are suffering from lost revenue to partial tuition refunds, room and board,
fees, etc.
▸ Facing these shortfalls in expected revenue, schools are turning to cost-saving
measures such as Universities have reduced the number of tenured professorships.
▸ Low paid, contractual professors, have been a major trend in universities/colleges
staffing to reduce the cost of salaries and benefits. This trend will likely accelerate as
colleges/universities have already begun to lay off staff and faculty.

Post-COVID Trends

▸ Student Attendance may slow down: Many parents may be reluctant to send back
their children to schools/colleges suddenly after the end of lockdown.
▸ National and International student mobility for higher study may be reduced.
▸ Educational institutions may run with different shifts per day.
▸ Blended learning may take the leading role. Blended learning combines both face to
face and online learning modes.
▸ Demand for Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online learning may grow.

Conclusion

▸ This Presentation has outlined various impacts of Covid-19 on higher education in


India
▸ The recent pandemic created an opportunity for change in pedagogical approaches
and introduction of virtual education in all levels of education.
▸ All service providers need to be mobilized to provide proper access to the
educational service platforms to the disadvantaged groups of population also.
▸ The post Covid-19 education seems to be an education with widely accepted
online/virtual education which may perhaps be a parallel system of education.
