DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL BANGALORE NORTH (2021-2022)

WEEKLY TEST 1

CLASS : XI SUBJECT : PHYSICS

TIME : 1 hour MAX MARKS:25

General Instructions:
(1) All questions are compulsory.
(2) This question paper has three sections: Section A, Section B and Section C
(3) Section A contains two Assertion reasoning questions and three MCQ of 1 mark each, section B contains
four 2 marker, section C contains four 3 markers.

Q no Section A Marks

For Question no 1 & 2 two statements are given. One labelled as Assertion (A) and the other
labelled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes (a), (b),
(c), and (d) as given below.
a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
b) Both A and R are true but R is NOT the correct explanation of A
c) A is true but R is false
d) A is false and R is also false

1. 1
Assertion: Number of significant figures in 0.005 is one and that in 0.500 is three.
Reason: This is because zeros are not significant.

2. 1
Assertion: Vector addition is commutative.
Reason: (A⃗ +B⃗ )≠(B⃗ +A⃗ )

3. Six vectors a through f have the magnitude and directions indicated in fig below. 1

Which of the following statement is true?

4. 1
Jake throws a rock downward from his deck at time t= 0s and it lands in his yard below.
Which of the following graphs best shows the velocity v of the rock until it hits the ground?
Assume upward is the positive direction.
Choose 1 answer:
5. Sarah
5 drives east at 30m/s, then slows to a stop at the red light. A graph of her acceleration 1
over time is shown below, where eastward is the positive acceleration direction.

Which graph shows her velocity over time?

Answer using a coordinate system where east is positive.
Choose 1 answer:
Section B
6. The resistance R is the ratio of potential difference V and current I. What is the percentage 2
error in R if V = (100 ± 5) V and I = (10± 0.2) A?
7. A robin is flying around and its velocity v as a function of time t is given in the graph below 2
where rightwards is the positive velocity direction. What is the robin's displacement ∆x from
t = 0s to t= 1.5s.

8. The displacement of a particle is given by the equation s = 9t3 + 8t2 + 4t + 7 where s is in 2

meters and t in seconds. Find the acceleration of the particle at t = 2s.
9. Car A is moving with a speed of 40 km/h and car B is moving with a speed of 60 km/h along 2
parallel straight paths, starting from the same point. What is the position of car A w.r.t B after
15 minutes?
Section C
10. a) A physical quantity X is related to four measureable quantities a, b, c and d as follows: 3 (1+2)
X = a2 b 3 c7/3 d-2
The percentage error in the measurement of a, b, c and d are 1 %, 2 %, 3% and 4 %
respectively. Find the percentage error in measurement of X.

b) Find the dimension of (a.b)

in the relation
P = (a- t3) / b√x, where x is distance, t is time and P is power.
11. The period of vibration of a tuning fork depends on the length l of its prong, density d and 3
Young’s modulus Y of the material. Deduce an expression for the period of vibration (T) using
dimensional analysis. {Dimensional formula of Young’s modulus – [ML^-1 T^-2]}
12. A body travelling along a straight line traversed one third of the total distance with a velocity 3
6m/s. The remaining part of distance was covered with a velocity 3m/s for half the time and
with velocity 9m/s for the other half the time. Find the average velocity over the whole time of
motion.
OR
A body travels a distance of 2m in 2 seconds and 2.2 m in next 4 seconds. What will be the
velocity of the body at the end of 8th second from the start?

13. State triangular law of vector addition. Derive the magnitude and direction of resultant vector. 3
