learn to complete with themselves. Freedom of Principal
expression and experiential learning would
ensure that the school becomes a rejoicing
center where each child’s uniqueness would be
valued and respected.

The school has the Multiple Intelligence Programme where each child
learns the concepts in a style that suits its learning abilities. The
handpicked Faculty are well versed to handle the concept which is
very unique by itself. We truly believe that children remember ‘what
they learn and not what they are taught’.

While we strive for Academic Excellence we also equally believe that

the non academic inputs are of greater importance. Thus Life Sills and
Grooming, Art and Culture, understanding the uniqueness of the

enable the students to focus, listen and respond incorporating the
principles of auditory, visual and kinesthetic learning certainly makes
The Samhita an ideal school where parents feel that their children are

Do you feel so exhausted that even combing your hair or brushing your teeth
seems like climbing Everest? If you do feel this way and also keep coming
down with skin allergies and joint pain, then it's time to seek a specialist's
help. There's a debilitating syndrome that's silently creeping upon urban
Indians, but is little known and often misdiagnosed. Known as Sjogren's
Syndrome (ss) and pronounced 'show grins', it is an autoimmune disease
wherein the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own moisture-
producing glands.
Genetic and environmental factors are one of the several causes of this
syndrome but not much is known about the exact triggers. It is more
prevalent in people where there is a family history of autoimmune illnesses
like hypothyroidism and type I diabetes. Low-levels of SS-B (La) antibodies in
the blood could activate the syndrome while physical and mental stress can
make a person more susceptible to it. Pollution is also cited as one of the
causes of SS; however, no research has been carried out to determine the
exact pollutants. Women above the age of 35 have reason to worry as 90 per
cent of ss patients belong to this category. It progresses slowly and takes
over five to six years to get diagnosed.
"Sjogren's Syndrome cases are on the rise in India. At least four to five
patients visit my clinic every month."Dr Reena Sharma, Ahmedabad
"I have been living with this syndrome for over five years now. I always carry
a bottle of water and eye drops with me."Kirtida Oza, Ahmedabad
As Sjogren's is a syndrome, it is a combination of several signs and
symptoms. Patients affected by SS are more prone to pneumonia, liver
failure, kidney failure and other internal organ damage. A small percentage
of patients could even develop cancer of the lymph glands. "The probability
of a SS patient getting cancer has increased by over 30 times as compared
to the general population," says Dr Amita Aggarwal, vice-president of the
Indian Rheumatology Association and assistant professor, Sanjay Gandhi
Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow. Sjogren's is classified
into two types-primary and secondary. In primary syndrome, the tear and
salivary glands are affected which results in the dryness of the eyes and
mouth; secondary SS occurs with another disease like rheumatic arthritis,
lupus or scleroderma. According to Dr Aggarwal, "Doctors are finding it
difficult to spot the primary syndrome compared to the secondary one."
Like it happened with Pratibha Gupta, a 50-year-old housewife from
Lucknow, who went to the doctor following joint pain. It was diagnosed as
rheumatoid arthritis. Meanwhile, she lost five teeth due to caries and her
dentist had advised filling. These tell-tale symptoms were accompanied by a
gritty sensation in her eyes and oral dryness. Further, she had two episodes
of parotid swelling that were treated with antibiotics and painkillers. But her
doctors had missed out completely on suspecting Sjogren's Syndrome.
Some of the major manifestations of the ss include hypokalemic periodic
paralysis in which excessive dehydration leads to low level of potassium in
the blood leading to the paralysis and renal tubular acidosis in which the
kidneys fail to excrete acids into urine. In some cases, SS patients might also
develop parotid swelling, the swelling of the largest salivary gland in the
mouth. In India, people are unaware of the existence of ss. For almost five
years, Ahmedabad-based Kirtida Oza, 47, made several rounds to the
doctor's clinic until she was diagnosed with SS. "I didn't know what was
happening to me and even the doctors failed to diagnose it," she says.
However, such cases are on the rise. Dr Reena Sharma, rheumatologist at
Shalby Hospital, Ahmedabad, says at least four to five patients suffering
from SS visit her in a month.
Besides general blood tests, a number of simple diagnostic tests like the
Schirmer eye test, lip biopsy, salivary scintigraphy and parotid scans can be
performed to determine whether a person is suffering from Sjogren's or not.
Though there is no specific cure, SS can be kept under control with
medication and precautions. Treatment depends on the organ that is
affected in the syndrome. Currently, research to find a concrete cure is
underway at the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC), Vellore. "We
are working on the use of Omega-3 fatty acid (fish oil) to treat SS. However,
it is still at an observational stage," says Dr Debashish Danda, professor and
head, clinical immunology and rheumatology, CMC. But SS leads to
alterations in the lifestyle as performing hectic activities becomes difficult as
these patients tend to get exhausted easily. Other symptoms like
breathlessness or dryness of the eyes also need care. "You will never see me
without eye drops and a water bottle. They are the two most indispensable
things of my life now," Oza says.
Dr Ramani Atkuri, 46, who lives near Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, was diagnosed
with primary SS five years ago. "I am a doctor and so is my husband but
even then we couldn't diagnose it initially," says Atkuri. Severe phases of
exhaustion would take her by surprise but she didn't pay much heed. Her
ophthalmologist referred her to a rheumatologist and it was then SS was
detected. Atkuri's work requires her to travel a lot but now she has cut down
on it considerably. "After a day at work, I can't do anything. I just reach
home and fall asleep," she says, adding that it takes her a couple of days to
regain her lost energy. The message is clear. Ignoring those subtle signs of
dryness, exhaustion and joint pains can lead to serious complications and a
little known syndrome called Sjogren's.
Related AilmentsMajor manifestations of Sjogren's Syndrome
- Autoimmune thyroiditis can lead to abnormal thyroid hormone levels.
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease can cause heartburn and difficulty in
swallowing.
- Primary biliary cirrhosis, an autoimmune disease of the liver, can lead to
scarring of liver tissues.
- Cancer of the lymph glands.
- Hypokalemic periodic paralysis in which excessive dehydration leads to low
level of potassium in the blood leading to paralysis.
- Renal tubular acidosis in which the kidneys fail to excrete acids into urine.
Preventive MeasuresPrecautions that keep this syndrome under control
- Moisture replacement therapy to ease dryness.
- Eye drops to reduce inflammation of the tear glands.
- Drinking plenty of fluids to treat oral dryness.
- Proper dental hygiene to avoid dental decay.
- Sucking sugarless lemon drops or glycerin swabs to help stimulate salivary
glands.

Music Reviews - Endhiran

The album takes off with 'Pudhiya Manidha' in the voices of S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, A.R. Rahman and his daughter
Khatija Rahman. In keeping with the futuristic theme of the movie' the opening notes are very techno. A robotic
rendering of the first verse is followed by slow strong chanting ‘Pudhiya Manidha Boomiku Va’. The song goes on to
sing the praise of the Robot and it’s sublimity. When the pace gradually picks up, SPB’s vocals overpower the others'.

The next song is 'Kadhal Anukkal', a poetic love song in the voices of Vijay Prakash and Shreya Ghoshal. The
mellifluous opening guitar strumming is simple yet soul-stirring. This is a typical ARR melody of the 2000s with pacey
beats in the background and a gentle melody in the foreground. The first musical interlude with the distinctive note of
bagpipes has a soothing feel to it, but when the techno beats surface in the second interlude, we are reminded that
we are still in the Endhiran album! Needless to say, Vijay and Shreya bring soul to the composition – they always do!

'Irumbilae Oru Idhayam' is the next number. The lyrics are quite touching and bring out ‘the Robot with emotions’
angle. ARR has sung the song himself, and as always, arouses our emotions with finesse. You can’t miss the female
voice singing 'Super Sonic Super Star' from time to time in the background. Once she even calls him 'Robotic
Hypnotic Super Star!' The song has a heavy dose of quirky English lyrics and to top it all , we have a medium-pace
rap from Kash 'n' Krissy that kind of grows on you.

What follows the heavily westernized number is the theme music, titled 'Chitti Dance Showcase', a very techno,
speedy theme. It starts off with few lines of rap in English and quickly converts into quick-paced classical notes sung
to heavy western percussion, a very interesting piece repeated a few times in the composition. The song has a heavy
dose of electric drums; when the drums fall silent, they are replaced by a serene violin orchestra with a divine
harmony.

'Arima Arima' opens with the royal rhythm of drums, like it’s marking the entry of an Emperor, in this case, Endhiran.
While the chorus chants his praises, calling him even the Silicon Singam, there is a tinge of pain in the voice of
Sadhana Sargam. The thuds of the drums continue all through the number, with Endhiran sounding every bit the
tough guy in the voice of Hariharan. This majestic composition has a shade of melancholy, bringing out the contrast
in the psychological mindsets of the characters.

While all these songs have an obvious attachment to techno beats and futuristic rhythms, the next song 'Kilimanjaro'
is completely removed from these moods. Tribal beats and tribal chanting persist throughout the number without the
slightest mention of Endhiran or anything robotic throughout. The lyrics are on the sensual side. The sound of the
drums overpowers all other instruments in this number sung by Javed Ali and Chinmayi.

'Boom Boom Robot-da' is the last number in the album. This fully techno, upbeat number (sung by Krithi Sagathia,
Swetha Mohan and Tanvi Shah, interspersed with Tamil rap from Yogi B) is a mish-mash of fast techno sounds and a
moderately pacey tune. The lyrics reiterate the greatness of the robot and the unimaginable avenues it opens up for
the development of humanity.

ANDRO-HUMANOID ROBOT! An intangible and theoretically glitzy 'n' stupefying sci-fi concept...no, we
are not talking about any Hollywood flick but about India's costliest film ROBOT. After delivering out the
swashbuckling blockbuster SIVAJI-THE BOSS (TAMIL -2008), technically superlative director S.Shankar
makes another grandiloquence of affair with superstar Rajnikant in this endeavor with a brigade of
scintillating SFX effects in its package. There are plethoras of techno-buzz sounds, tantalizing rhythms
and upbeat electronic beats that forms melodic sensory concoction with the breathtaking love-chemistry,
conceptual displays and visual delights in this larger-than-life thriller. Maestro A.R Rahman's dexterity
with digital sounds and modernized instrumentals are the expertise that are going to play symbiotic
relationship in creating pure 'magic' on big screen. This trilingual (TAMIL, TELUGU and HINDI)
entertainer has already charmed its listeners in its Tamil and Telugu versions and now the buzz is likely to
take Hindi audiences by storm. No two doubts about its worthy attributes but does the Hindi version
carries the same pep-fizz that it had in its earlier two versions. Against all odds, S. Shankar's earlier
dubbed flicks (JEANS, HINDUSTANI and APARICHIT) had the quality musical stuffing and were winners
all the way. Let's walk into the musical territory of this ROBOT...

Evolution of Robot...! Techno-buzz of electronically paced digitalized voices, synthesized sounds and
loads of computer-crafted arrangements marks the arrival of much-awaited 'Enthiran' (meaning 'Robot' in
Tamil) in 'O Naye Insaan ('Puthiya Manidha' in Tamil). The song is a narrative about the fruition of 'Robot',
its evolution, advancements, applications and its means of operations. Swanand Kirkire's enterprising
words communicate well and delivers monologue for 'Robot' as well as narrates the situational feel with
simple wordings. Srinivas D's resounding voice (similar sounding to S.P.Balasubrahmanyam's tones) is
compelling and convincing and creates a visual euphoria. The surprise package is Khatija Rahman's
(daughter of A.R. Rahman) nimble-touch demure rendition in echoing mode and is equally convincing in
lighter tones. Rahman's credible moves at improvisation in sound techniques and ingenuity in composing
this peculiar-feel soundtrack deserve appreciation and are likely to be big supportive factor in flick's
narrative flows.

Scientific love...! Shankar's innovation gets a superlative Rahman's musical entourage and together, they
create a magical gist of romantic happenings in sweet 'n' saccharine sounding 'Pyaara Tera Gussa Bhi
('Kadal Anukkal' in Tamil). Soul sauntering electric guitar strumming, tender bagpiper flows and flows of
electronically profound synthesizer combines well in creating a well etched prelude. Mohit Chauhan's
picks notes through peculiar 'alaaps' that stretches well and delivers into format of lovable duet. Its
peculiar rhythmical groove is enticing and so do Shreya Ghoshal's genteel warmth, in tender melodic
ambience. Rahman's romantic spell of late 90's can be felt with modernization in sound techniques.
Swanand Kirkire's wordings again excel in bringing technical terminology ('electron', 'neutron'...) into
poetic flair. This song will be having maximum takers among listeners who have been enthralled by
Rahman's earlier romantic numbers. On repetitive hearing, it really gets into senses and exudes a
smoothening impact on ears.

Robot with a heart...! Truckloads of synthesized electronic tunes and hypersensitive digitalized rhythmical
moves collage together to create a synonym of 'Super sonic Super Star' for 'Robot' in funky-pitched
'Naina Miley'. Lady Kash 'n' Krissy sensuously gliding hip-hop rendition rocks the floors and creates a
superficial decorum of techno-tronic happenings. The prelude is too high on thumping electronic beat
patterns, exemplifying the functioning or emotional terrain of 'Robot'. Rahman's booming rendition jester
all the funky moods of 'Robot falling in love' and its repercussions. This situational soundtrack is
presumed to be a lively cinematic affair and fun-fare for all those lovely eyes who crave for something
spectacular.

Robot...on floors! To pulsate out the sensory moves of super-sonic machine called 'Robot', an
instrumental in the form of 'Chitti Dance Showcase' comes out as another harmonic surprise. Rahman's
'conductor' skills at philharmonic orchestra, fusion of Carnatic music and improvisation in techno-filled
fillers collage impressively to sensitize out the 'robotic' feel on floors. It has quirky shades of 'Liquid
Dance' (SLUMDOG MILLIONARE -2008) with strong inputs of racy emceeing and idiosyncratic
electronically tuned signature tunes. The percussions, drumming and later violin chorus delivers out a
typical fusion-pitched 'opera' ambience. Pradeep Vijay, Pravin Mani along with Yogi B frenzied vocal
spells add to the show and builds a tempo for engrossing picturesque affair.

Robot regales...! Down memory lane in 1996, Rahman composed song titled 'Maya Machindra'
(HINDUSTANI -1996) that had nuances of royal grandeur of princely-love, showcased through excellence
of advanced cinematic skills and technical musical binge. 'Arima Arima', a song about the royal legacy of
'Robot' follows all such guidelines that talks about valor and splendor. Fuelled with persistently energized
electronic sounds and rhythms, it has extra boisterous sounds of trumpets, horns, harps matched with
thunderous drumming to epitomize out the musical grandeur. Hariharan's voice throw is splendid and
flashes out dramatic scenario of 'Robot' carrying out his entourage, with its military strength. Sadhna
Sargam's sedate tones works in tandem but again it's the orchestral excellence that rules the show. It's
scintillating SFX-filled visual depiction with 'extra-large' entertainment will be its best judge. Just wait for
the countdown...

Landscaped delights...! Shankar's insatiable to discover new landscaped location created a visual
splendor in 'Ajooba' (JEANS -1998) and again he's on another grand bon-voyage to deliver out visual
spectacle in 'Kilimanjaro'. It breaks loose from album beat-culture of techno-filled rhythms and works
primarily on African tribal sounds and rhythms. Javed Ali's yelling tones along with Chinamyi's cheeky
voice blooms vigorously with tribal sounds and sets a multicolored cinematic decorum. Like energy-filled
'Arima Arima', its all for visual spectacles that will work for the track and surely be engaging musical piece
in adding lighter moments to the flick.

Robot...the icon! The wonder boy 'Robot' gets glorified and is hailed as icon with all its big reasons,
specifications and features in enthralling sounding 'Boom Boom Robo Da'. A. R Rahman's most ferocious
electronic beat filled punch comes all the way in its foot-thumping hip-hop emceeing that are mixed in
proportion with atrociously loud rhythmical textures and engaging set of vocals. Swanand Kirkire's lyrical
wordings are informative par chirpy ('Isaac Asimov ka khela hai robo, Isaac Newton ki leela hai robo,
Albert Einstein ki budhi hai robo....) and have wittily loud melodramatic appeal. Madhushree's sweet-
honeyed voice is affectionately lauded with Yogi B's energized hip-hop emceeing and is supported well by
Tanvi Shah, Rags and Keerthi Sagathia. The soundtrack is scaled high on its frivolous catchiness and is
framed in stylish musical set-up for iconic 'Robot'. For its deliriously loud disco-beat melodic maneuvers, it
is likely to be having maximum takers among urbane listeners and should be engaging add in the
background score section.

Strongly Recommended!!!
