TURBO ENGINE

• Downsizing is a technique which involves reducing the cubic capacity of an engine in order to reduce fuel consumption, while maintaining performance
thanks to turbocharging. The resulting saving in fuel consumption is estimated to be 5%.
• Removing a cylinder reduces friction by 20% compared with a 4-cylinder engine architecture of the same cubic capacity, leading to a 4% saving in fuel consumption.
• The 3-cylinder pulse, combined with a longer exhaust phase, is twice as powerful as that of an equivalent 4-cylinder engine.
• This natural turbocharging means that less demand is made of the turbo which in turn is more efficient, directly benefiting fuel consumption.
