SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION
What significant experiences have you had working with children?
I have worked with children in many different enviroments (Choir, band, Unified Band, Art, Ceramics, PLTW, Science for grades K-8, Math for grades, K-8, Business
tech, Health, Unified Gym, English for grades K-8, and Social Studies for SPED 6 -8. I worked in enviroments with both total inclusion and limited inclusion). I had
experience with teaching reading strategies using Orton Gillingham phonics, as well as SRA. I assisted in helping to teach the lower, struggling Math students every
day in a fifth grade classroom. It was usually the same handfull of students. I also retaught much of what was taught in each of these classes. This is because the
student can be with their gen. ed peers and the more explanation required can take place later. Often reinforcing what was taught in a different way to ensure

DIRECTIONS: Please answer each of the questions below as best you can. The space provided should be adequate; but if more space
is needed, please attach additional pages.

1. Why did you want to become a teacher?

As a child, I would teach my baby dolls and cats at there desks in our barn. My mom jokes that she always knew I would be a teacher. A school teacher had
actually lived in our house previously and left many desks in the barn for storage. I had my own little classrooml in the barn. As a senior in highschool, I
student taught in a first grade classroom. The teacher was my mom's best friend and our preacher's wife. I was shown how to be patient, encouraging, and
supportive. I was asked to helped a specific student who was struggling. Her entire family spoke another language, so she was the translator for them. The
experience showed me how the smallest amount of growth can be brought on by the most intense work. Celebrate those milestones both large and small.
She also taught me how to identify those students who may need more teaching. She taught me different strategies to give those students the "more" they
need. Also, during my junior and senior year, I had an English teacher who inspired me to dig deeper. One day after class, she gave me a book of Portuguese
Love Sonnets to read. She showed me how to decode what I was reading. She made the materials valid to my own life and struggles at the time. My love for
reading and writing was given to me by her, and I can only hope to teach students how to love learning. I want them to enjoy the development of new
understandings.

middle son is Autistic and has ADHD, so teaching much of those everyday social skills was more difficult and required more patience and repetativity. I saw

do. timeline. When it comes to determing what the student knows ahead of time and
what will be taught, pre assessments are crucial. Post assessments are equally important because they can show if more focus and development is required
in new lessons. I also like to scaffold my lessons upon one another. This helps to teach new concepts fluidly.

3. What do you think will provide you the greatest pleasure in teaching?
I have honestly had this feeling before. When students set goals for themselves or I have a goals for them and those goals are achieved. The students are
proud of themselves and the work they put in. We celebrate those victories and I have a sense of pride in their accomplishments also. I have worked with
several nonverbal students, and the joy we experience when they realize their hands or a device can help them talk to me is priceless. Students simply give
me joy. Their love for life, no matter what their circumstance, is infectious. I am currently a caregiver for one of the students in the FLS classroom. I have
worked with her since third grade. She will be going into the highschool, and seeing her growth has amazed me. I think that will be what is most rewarding. I
will enjoy the student's as they grow into mini adults and use what they were taught to live productive lives in society. I absolutley love when students enjoy
what they are learning. I love to make it fun and interesting. I think their joy will be my greatest joy.

4. Describe the characteristics of an outstanding teacher.

An outstanding teacher can tell when her student is struggling. She challenges her students. She pushes her students to do better. She listens. She always
has a plan of action and also a plan b and a plan c. She is organized. She continuously defines expectations to and for her students. She knows how to push
her students and how to make them smile. She makes learning fun. She provides continuos learning opportunites. She caculates growth and determines
progress. She also develops good, effective lesson plans. She can determine individual student needs and develps goals to address those needs. A good
teacher also collaborates and communicates with coworkers and parents to ensure the student is successful at reaching those goals.

5. A parent tells you that what you are teaching his child is irrelevant to the child’s needs. How would you respond?
First, I would verify my reasoning for the lesson. I would name those standards that the lesson was based upon. I would also give a quick assessment to
ensure what was understood prior to and after the lesson. Finally, I would show the results at the end to verify the growth that occured. I would also research
how the lesson could be relatable and valid to the student's own life. Often in a SPED classroom, if the lesson is irrelevant to the child, it will not be
remembered anyway, and some material must at least be presented.

6. What are your personal goals?

I just began a nutritional plan in the hopes to improve my own health. I want to, personally, be healthy. I want my family to learn how to live healthier lifestyles.
I also want to be teaching soon. I can begin my career. I have been waiting over twenty years to complete my educational journey. I am ready to inspire,
encourage and lead students toward success. I want to help students build up knowledge and confidence in the classroom. I plan on finding a teaching
position and putting my everything into it until I am ready to retire. I want to make people's lives easier if I can. I am trying to find my own joy dailly and will
continue as I strive to provide joy to others.

7. What are your sources of ideas?

I have been inspired by many teachers. I have actually been an IA in many different learning environments. I have been blessed to have been in an 8th grade
gen. ed Health class, PLTW, Choir, Unified Choir, Band, Unified Band, Art, Ceramics, and business tech. I have also been in a gen. ed 7th grade Science
class. I have also been blessed to be with 5 SPED teachers all teaching different ages and subjects. I often use Teachers pay Teachers. When I was
coteaching in my intership, I was sent some good ideas for lessons. I have a huge pool of teacher friends who share effective suggestions and techniques. I
love to do themes for the day or week. For example, I did an entire week on leaves. We went on an adventure walk to find leaves. We compared them, we
catorgorized them, we drew pictures of them, we read books about them, and we used them to create "leaf" animals. We made snacks related to theme and
watched informative clips, CNN, or brainpops. Those lessons then led to an apple themed week. I often utilize scaffolding.
8. In teaching a class, do you have an outline that you follow?
In a SPED classroom, consistency is very important. The day needs to be consistent. The start of the day should always be the same, whatever that routine
maybe. It could be announcements, calander, and station work. This could be something that happens prior to the actual lesson. I will base my lesson upon
what was learned previously or what can be scaffolded off of a lesson. Then I would expain expectations and provide instruction for the "I do" aspect of the
lesson. I often provide an example of the "we do" part, so students fully understand what is being asked of them. I would either put students in small groups or
let them do the "you do" portion of the lesson independently. Finally, I can close the lesson with an assessment to determine undestanding. The results can
also influence the fluency of the lesson, how quickly I can move and when I can move on. I also love using lessons where project based learning can occur.
I will always have the schedule for the day posted so students can easily see it. I have learned that if students know what the plan is, they are usually willing
to follow that plan. It's when changes are made, behaviors occur. Students want to feel they have control over their own schedules. It is important to follow the
schedules as closey as possible but remember things can always change causing me to adapt and inform my students of the changes occuring.
9. How do you determine what students do well?
Every student should do well in class. This means the student gives 100 percent. If they are meeting those grade level standards that are in place or being
taught. If they are progressing forward. The speed of progression is not what is important. It is the quality of the progess made. Assessments can be useful in
calculating progession and determining growth. I can also look back at previous examples of progression through the years and determine growth or
predictions for growth.

10. What are your strengths? What contribution do you feel you can make to education?
I am good at determining student's strengths, and then providing specific opportunities to use those strengths. I like to group students up in a way where they
can be successful at whatever theri do. I am a planner and an organizer. I learned how to use an electronic classroom planning app. during my internship. It
was so beneficial. If a topic needed more focus or was not discussed, I could just add it to the plan for the following day. Both organizing and planning aspects
support the teacher role positively. Everything has a place, and documentation (a teacher's best friend) needs organizing efficiently so it can easily be
accessed when needed. I have learned that it is important to always have a Plan B and Plan C prepared and in place. I am flexible and can adapt quickly,
usually by Plan B or C. This is important becasue as teachers we can't always determine the speed in which the lesson will be heard and understood. If you
can't keep the lesson moving, you may loose students because of inattention or boredom. Once they begin to stray, they may never regain focus and
behaviors can occur. I feel that I can create a learning environment where my students can become molded to enjoy learning and absorbing information. I can
create a safe, learning environment where success is celebrated, and students are encouraged. I can inspire students with my determination, and love for
learning. I like to use music in my classroom to hellp improve productivity, keep students working, and lessen anxitey. My music additions within lessons will
be memorable to students. I like to expose students to all types of music. It is my belief that music can help reinforce my teachings. My hope is that my
students take the love of music with them to help in those more difficult times in their lives. Specific music can assist in decoding information and making ithat
music relevant and memorable.
