how long was the ribbon?

Ans.: 30cm Solution: 9 ÷ 3 = 3; 3 x 10 = 30 (10= 2+3+5)

3. If a 3-meter post casts a shadow 7 decimeters long, what is the height of a tree, in meters, that casts a
shadow 63 decimeters long?

Ans.: 27 Solution: 3:7 = n:63, 3 x 63=289; 189÷7= 27

4. A family spends 25% of their income in food. If the family has a monthly income of P25,250.00, how
much a year do they spend for food?

1. A salesman has a basic salary of P10,500.00 a month. He gets a commission of 5% on all sales above
P50,000.00. How much did he earn in a month when he sold P276,000 worth of goods?

Ans.: P21,800.00 Solution: 276,000 – 50,000 = 226,000 x 0.5= 11,300 + 10,500 = 21,800

2. A pair of shoes is sold at 15% discount. If the original price is P1,500, what is its new price?

Ans.: P1, 275 Solution: 1,500 x .15 = 225; 1500-225 = 1,275

3. The ratio of the angles of a triangle is 2:4:6. What is the difference between the second and the third
angles?

Ans.: 30° Solution: 2 + 4 + 6 = 12, 180 ÷ 12 = 15; 15 x 4=60; 15 x 6 = 90; 90-60=30

4. Four times a number increased by 6 is 62. Find the number.

Ans.: 14 Solution: 62 – 6 = 56 ÷ 4 = 14

5. Mrs. Tan bought books and school supplies for her children worth P4,459.79. How much change did
she get from 5 P1,000.00 bills?

Ans.: 540.21 Solution: 5,000 – 4,459.79 = 540.21

6. Two out of three pupils wear rubber shoes for intramurals. If there are 60 pupils, what percent wear
rubber shoes?
