A. Preparation
Recall
Introduction of Class Rules
Before you convert any active sentence into passive, you need to:
1. identify first the S + V + O
2. SWAP
3. Convert main verb to V3
4. Add helping verb/ to be verb. (is , am, are, was, were, be, being, been)
5. Add preposition by
He wrote me a letter A letter was written by him.
He bought a car. A car was bougth by him.
C. Practice
Activity 2. Video
The teacher will play a video and the students must watch attentively. The teacher will
ask what was moved by the hands in the video.
After the activity, the teacher will ask 5 question and the students must answer in passive.
Example 1. What happened to the Vase?
The priceless vase was broken by Brad.
V. Purposeful Closure
How to Remember active voice and passive?
If you add the phrase “by zombie” after the verb and it makes sense, the sentence is
passive. If it doesn’t make sense, it is active.
Example: The store is overrun (by zombies). ---Does it makes sense? Yes!!! It is PASSIVE
He runs ( by zombie ) the store. ---Does it makes sense? No!!! It is ACTIVE.
