A. Preparation

Activity 1: Pre- Listening (Song-gap fill)


I’m going to give you a copy of the lyrics of the song She will be Loved by Maroon 5. As you
listen to the song, you have to fill in the lyrics of the song. I’m only going to play the song twice.
B. Presentation
Based on the activity we did, what do you think is our lesson for today?
Our lesson for today is about transforming active voice sentences into passive voice sentences.
There are two ways to describe an action performed by subject in relation to the object: The Active and
the Passive.
In active, the subject performs the action and object receives the action. S + V + O
In passive, an action is performed on the object by the subject. O + (HV) + V3 + by “Subject”
Today, we’re going to focus on the Simple past.
Example:
Sam baked a cake. A cake was baked by Sam.
Maya repaired my car My car was repaired by Maya.

Before you convert any active sentence into passive, you need to:
1. identify first the S + V + O
2. SWAP
3. Convert main verb to V3
4. Add helping verb/ to be verb. (is , am, are, was, were, be, being, been)
5. Add preposition by
He wrote me a letter A letter was written by him.
He bought a car. A car was bougth by him.

Activity 2. Video
The teacher will play a video and the students must watch attentively. The teacher will
ask what was moved by the hands in the video.

Activity 3. Passive Party


The class will be divided into3-4 group. Each group will be given a copy of the activity
sheet. Students must fill in the correct verb needed that has the same first two letter as the Subject’s name.
Example.
1. Brad ________ a priceless vase. BROKE

After the activity, the teacher will ask 5 question and the students must answer in passive.
Example 1. What happened to the Vase?
The priceless vase was broken by Brad.

V. Purposeful Closure
How to Remember active voice and passive?
If you add the phrase “by zombie” after the verb and it makes sense, the sentence is
passive. If it doesn’t make sense, it is active.
Example: The store is overrun (by zombies). ---Does it makes sense? Yes!!! It is PASSIVE
He runs ( by zombie ) the store. ---Does it makes sense? No!!! It is ACTIVE.
