UTTARAKHAND
Uttarakhand, formerly known as Uttaranchal, is a state in the northern part of
India. It is often referred to as the "Devbhumi" (literally "Land of the Gods") due
to its religious significance and numerous Hindu temples and pilgrimage
centres found throughout the state. Uttarakhand is known for the natural
environment of the Himalayas, the Bhabar and the Terai regions. It borders
the Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north; the Sudurpashchim
Pradesh of Nepal to the east; the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh to the south
and Himachal Pradesh to the west and north-west. The state is divided into two
divisions, Garhwal and Kumaon with a total of 13 districts. The winter capital of
Uttarakhand is Dehradun, the largest city of the state, which is a rail
head. Gairsain, a town in Chamoli district is the summer capital of

KARNATAKA
Karnataka is the largest state in South India and sixth largest in India. The state
is in the south western region of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956, with
the passage of the States Reorganisation Act. Originally known as the State of
Mysore , it was renamed Karnataka in 1973. The state corresponds to
the Carnatic region. Its capital and largest city is Bangalore. Karnataka is
bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, Goa to the northwest, Maharashtra to
the north, Telangana to the northeast, Andhra Pradesh to the east, Tamil Nadu to
the southeast, and Kerala to the south. It is the only southern state to have land
borders with all of the other 4 southern Indian sister states. The state covers an
area of 191,976 square kilometres (74,122 sq mi), or 5.83 percent of the total
geographical area of India.
