My interests, curiosity and love for Petroleum science in general is immense, but what

fascinates me most is its relationship with the earth, the resources embedded in the subsurface
and the various ways and techniques employed to access these resources and recover them to
the surface. My ambition to improve the oil and gas industry in Nigeria and equip others with the
necessary knowledge and skill sets to become experts in the petroleum industry, both in
educational development and technology wise has triggered my interest to apply for the
Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarship to obtain a masters (MSc)
degree in Petroleum Geoscience.

My learning experience during my graduate studies was a rigorous yet fulfilling one. I excelled
really well studying Petroleum Engineering in my first degree at Delta State University Abraka.
This is evident in my high grades which are documented proof of how serious and keen I am to
achieve my ambition.

My reason for deciding to study Petroleum Geosciences is because of the importance of its
applications to the oil and gas industry and how this will thus positively impact national
development. Today in the petroleum industry, geophysical data play a critical role in oil and gas
exploration and manufacturing. Deciding wherein to drill may be much of an art as it is a
technology. Since most of the petroleum deposits are buried deep in the subsurface of the earth,
geoscientists find oil and gas through constructing a clear image of what is under the Earth's
floor. Therefore geophysical techniques are needed to locate and optimally produce
hydrocarbons from beneath the earth's surface. This is why i am particularly longing to study at
Imperial College London, University of Manchester, or the University of Aberdeen where they
provide detailed research structures, quality modern facilities and professional instructors who
are experienced in the field of Petroleum Geosciences and other related fields that will help me
master the skill and techniques required to achieve my goals. Also, these schools encourage
extracurricular activities necessary for student development.

My internship experience with Cypher Crescent Limited exposed me to well logging and its
interpretation. I got to see and appreciate the importance of well logs in determining the
potential of the earth as per the type of resources present when interpreted accurately. This
experience, coupled with that of my final year project titled - “Petro-physical analysis of well
logs from Desu-OH 1 and Desu-OH 2”, strengthened my motivation towards choosing
Petroleum Geosciences as my proposed course of study. My research interest is centered on
"Petrophysical property variations with depth" This is relevant to the oil and gas industry
because, the country’s oil reserve is not maximally exploited, hence, it will aid the oil and gas
industry to discover, explore and produce hydrocarbons optimally in new ways.

Having gone through PTDF objectives and seeing how they match perfectly with mine, I believe
this scholarship would be a great means to achieve my career goals and positively impact the
oil and gas industry in Nigeria.
