Lines - 1

1 Geometric shapes can be zero-dimensional, one dimensional, or multi-dimensional.

• Points are zero-dimensional.

• Lines, rays and line segments are one-dimensional (also known as uni-dimensional).
• Quadrilaterals, rectangles, etc. are two dimensional.
o Can be exactly replicated on a two-dimensional paper.
• Cuboids, cylinders, cones, etc. are three-dimensional.
o Cannot be exactly replicated on a two-dimensional paper.

2 A line has no endpoint, rays have a single endpoint, and a line segment have two endpoints.

Lines - 2

4 A unique line passes through two given points.

A B

5 Three or more points are said to be collinear if they lie on a single line.

Note:
• If they don’t lie on the same line, they are termed as non-collinear points.

6 Given any three non-collinear points, we can draw a unique triangle.

7 Parallel lines are the lines that never meet each other.

8 Intersecting lines have a unique point of intersection.

9 Coincident lines meet at infinite points.
