Jump formwork
Jump form here taken to include systems often described as climbi
construction of multi-stores vertical concrete elements in high-rise ng form is
suitable for structures such as
• Shear walls
• Core walls
• Lift Shafts
• Stair Shafts
• Bridge pylons
These are constructed in a staged process. It is a highly-productive system
designed to increase speed and efficiency while minimizing labor to suit varying
are normally modular and can be joined to form long lengths to suit varying
construction geometries.
Jump form is typically used on building of 5 storey's or more fully self- climbing
systems are generally used on structure with more than 20 floor levels.

Table formwork
This is also known as flying formwork technique. This technique it is routinely
used for.
• Residential flats
• Hotels
• Hostels
• Offices
• Commercial building
In this method appropriate quality control, high- quality surface finishes can
be achieved. It reduced long-term workforce requirement on site. In this neet for

infill areas and decking joints is minimized The supporting slab must he capable of
carrying high loads at bearing locations.
Table formwork is widely used in the concrete pouring of slabs. The system
is for any ground plan and any floor height. It has simple structure; easy assembly
makes it especially cost-effective.

10.LITERATURE REVIEW:-
Gary R. Smith, Awad S. Hannal, (1993), were studied on Factors
influencing formwork productivity. Estimates indicate that 30 to 70 percent of
cast-in-place concrete cost is attributable to the assembly and stripping of
formwork. Two groups of factors were found to have a great effect on formwork
productivity, non-measurable factors such as contract document and measurable
factors such as engineering design.

James D. Sumway, (1992), studied on A comparative analysis of concrete

formwork productivity influence factors. Concrete formwork labor costs constitute
over 1/3 of total concrete construction costs. Their study identified the factors
which can reduce the number of labor hours required to erect, align and strip
concrete formwork will help to improve the cost effectiveness of construction
operations. Formwork labor expenses constitute nearly 35% of the total cost of
vertical concrete work. Proper system selection, repetitive design dimensions,
efficient scheduling, and careful activity coordination can yield significant
productivity savings. Productivity depends on form type, panel size, formed
surface shape, form height, method of assembly and placement .

Osama Mosheli, Jaffer Khan, (2010), were studied on Analysis of Labour

Productivity in Building. A neural network model was used to study a number of

Page3

factors considered to impact labour productivity on daily basis. These included

temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, precipitation, gang size, crew
composition, height of work, type of work and construction method employed. The
data were then analyzed to determine the influence of these parameters on site
labour productivity.

Bhagyashri Wani (2003), The Indian populace has crossing 125 Cr. In todays
date. Hence in today’s date fulfilling thebasic needs in way of living is getting
difficult. To achieve the equilibrium between nature and human basic needs,
finding new way is necessary. As there is an improvisation in people’s lifestyle
hence, they are demanding the high standard facilities like infrastructure, modern
housing. As the land percentage of non-agricultural area is less in our nation so
rather than spreading horizontally, enhancing verticality construction is the best
option. The vertical development consists of high-rise buildings, sky-scrapers,
super-tall towers etc. For such constructions use of in-expensive formwork which
is using conventionally formwork is good but not enough as it doesn’t fulfil other
needs such as quality, time and speed. Hence automation in advanced formwork
i.e. Jump Formwork technique is the better option shown in this research paper.
Also, in research work the scheduling and sequencing of activities is made in
Microsoft project and compared their duration with conventional formwork. The
other factors which influences project are also discussed.
Hisham A. Abou Ibrahim and Farook R. Hamzeh(2000), The selection of
formwork systems in high-rise buildings is often governed by their competence in
optimizing concrete activities in an isolated manner, without relating this choice to
the entire construction workflow. This paper studies the role of advanced
formwork systems in high-rise construction and analyzes this role in shaping not
only the progress of concrete activities, but the entire construction sequence. In this

Page4

context, known research efforts do not address this important aspect in analyzing
highrise formwork technologies, and formwork selection is usually left to
constructors’ experience, and corresponding organizational knowledge. Employing
process models, the paper investigates advanced high-rise formwork technologies
versus regular ones to better advice scholars and practitioners. Results highlight the
importance of advanced high-rise formwork systems in streamlining the workflow
of concrete and other downstream activities, allowing for better resource
allocation, more waste reduction, smaller work batches, less inventory, and safer
working environment.

SCOPE:
The main scope of the study is to analyze the productivity of mivan and
conventional formwork and their suitability under different circumstances

11.OBJECTIVE OF STUDY:-

• To compare old technique of formwork with new modern technique of formwork.

• To study new modem technique of formwork.
• To achieve economy.
• To achieve speed in construction.

12.RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:-

Of this research is collected by survey data collection methods such as

questionnaires this research work was accomplished with a combination of the
following research methods.

Page5
PVPIT BUDHGAON SANGLI

• Thorough and a detail literature review is conducted on books, codes of

practices,
specifications, magazines or newspapers and relevant websites to learn about the
factors that
influence the cost, completion time and quality of constructed projects with respect
to usage
of steel and timber formwork systems.

• Thirty building projects that are under construction in Addis Ababa are selected
for case
study. A simple random sampling technique is implemented to select these
building
construction projects.

13.SCOPE OF THE STUDY:-

The scope of this thesis is limited to the structural elements of building
projects such as column, beam, slab, shear wall and stair that are tasted in the
construction site. In addition this research will be based on the comparison of two
type of formwork for concrete elements. It will not be focused on the rivalry
between two specific opposing systems, nor that between two different
manufacturers. The purpose is not to prove that one product is superior to another,
but rather to determine which systems, steel panel or timber panel, are superior.

The research was conducted in Addis Ababa for different category of building type
such as apartment, office, multipurpose, condominium and hospital buildings. The

study compromise different category of contractors, starting from grade 6 up to

grade 1 contractor, involved in the construction of building projects.
