INSET NARRATIVE REPORT

Capacity building of teachers in Science Instrumentation

November 12, 19, 25, 2021

“The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas

covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to

be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be.”

― Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt: Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time

The Science department INSET this year explored a new perspective beyond the moon

and stars through microscope, telescope, mirrors and lenses. It was unique, fun-filled

experienced. These are the key in maximizing the positive use of technology and

instruments, and embracing the new normal set up of education in preparation of the

face to face modality. The Science department training this year is centred in the use of

instruments.

A three day school based INSET for the school year 2021-2022 was conducted

highlighting the theme “Capacity building of Teacher in Science Instrumentation”

following the online survey of the difficult learning areas to be handled by Science

Teachers.

Headed by the dynamic OIC Department head Ellen M. Labastida, science educators

actively participated in the said training. The three day seminar started by singing the

National Anthem and followed by a prayer conducted by Ms. Maryrose V. Amaro and

hosteby Mam Syrine M. Almocera. Madam Ellen Labastida opened the program by

expressing gratitude for all the teachers who planned and participated in the

success of this training special mention to Mam Rezy Esquillo, Mam Ailyn Poldo

among others.

We raise our level of expectations by the lovely Mam April D. Ramirez, and Introduction

of Multi- Lingual Science videos presented by Mr. Ricardo Angel E. Racca. Mr. Roger

Raymund B. Malesido discussed tips on making video lesson followed by the inspring

message of Sir Edwin G. Return, HT VI OIC; SH. Mam Rezy L.Esquillo provided us the

orientation of training matrix.

The first day session 1 overflowed with excitement as Mam Aileen fully equipped with

much passion discussed the Basic Microscopy and its application. Science Teachers

were provided by individual microscope and able to visualized biological sample given.

She made us use of slices of onion tissues and highlight the part of the cell and urge us

to learn to see microscopically. Indeed, the session trained us in detailed and précised

manipulation of the Microscope.

The session 2: Newton’s Law of Motion was discussed by Mr. Ricardo Angel E. Racca.

Some of us teachers and students stated that physics is complicated topic to be

learned. But Sir Rian emphasized to us that Physics is likely to be easier. He

demonstrated the rightful way of attaching, detaching and even using the pull cart and

free fall instruments. Thus these lead us to create observable outputs in our activity in

which truly increased our knowledge and confidence in the learning and teaching

process that we could impart to our learners. It is a matter of having a broad mind and

excitement to learn corporate with the supplication of the learning materials and

laboratory instruments.

DAY 2 – November 19,2021

The day started with MOL activity over Kahoot.com and facilitated by Ms. Rezy L.

Esquillo. Day 2 is consist of three (3) sessions: a) Series and Parallel Connection;

b) Mirrors and Lenses; and c) Breakout Session per Grade Level.

The topic on Series and Parallel Connection was discussed by Mr. Arthur R. Esquillo

followed by an activity on assembling the two types of connection using the laboratory

equipment available. After the first session, Ms. Michelle J. Camposano introduces

Mirrors and Lenses, wherein she demonstrated to the group different properties of light

through series of activities. The session is continued by Mr. Edwin G. Grande, Jr.,

discussing the different types of lenses and activities on focal lengths, reflections, and

mirrors.

After the topics, the participants grouped themselves according to their respective

grade-level. They were asked to prepare lesson plans, integrating the available

laboratory equipment.

DAY 3 – November 25, 2021

The last day is demonstration teaching per grade level. The teachers, demonstrated

their teaching strategies in using laboratory equipment during lesson. It was done by

grade-level and spearheaded by the Curriculum Coordinator assigned – Mrs. Ellen M.

Labastida for Grade 7, Mrs. Cecilia Tagud for Grade 8, and Mr. Eduardo Laurio for

Grades 9 and 10.

To culminate the activity, the Closing Program was held in the afternoon of Day 3. It

started with singing of a nationalistic song through an audio-visual presentation and

followed by a prayer led by Mrs. Chrezel B. Talay. Mr Ricardo B. Munez, the school

Assistant Principal for junior high school gave his message, appreciating the roles of

science teachers in molding the 21 st century skills of the students. He also thank the

training team for initiating this kind of training to teachers. After Mr. Munez message,

Ms. Roxanne A. Natural, Mrs. Ma. Theresa R. Bosque, Mrs. Maureen m. Ramiso and

Mr. Eduardo S. Laurio, Jr. gave their impressions on this training. Mrs. Josephine A.

Bartolay accepted the challenge given by Mrs. Cecilia A. Tagud. The closing program

hosted by Mrs. Mary Grace D. Retuya ended with the distribution of certificates.
