Inspection and Testing:

Following are the inspection and testing performed after casting of camshaft.

Visual Inspection:
In this process we used microscope and magnifying glass to inspect the casting's surface. This method could
only detect surface defects like mismatches, external cracks, swells, fusion, and blowholes and there were no
such defects in our part and visual inspection was cleared by our part.

Dimensional Inspection:
Dimensional inspection was carried out by us to make sure that the castings produced had the required overall
dimensions including allowances for machining. Dimensional inspection was also cleared by our part.

Radiographic inspection (X-Ray):

In Radiographic inspection we penetrated X-ray through the casting that gave a shadow picture on a
photographic film that was placed behind the work piece. Any defects in the casting could easily be identified
from the picture but there were no such defects and our part successfully cleared this inspection.

Magnetic Particle Testing:

This test was mainly used by us for detecting external cracks in the casting. For carrying out this test we
magnetized the casting and spread fine particles of iron on its surface. Presence of a crack or void in the casting
could result in interruption of the magnetic field but there were no interruptions and our part cleared this test.

Ultrasonic Testing:
Ultrasonic testing was done by us to detect defects like cracks, voids or porosity within the interior of the
casting. In this method we used reflection and transmission of high frequency sound waves. This testing was
cleared by our part.
