CLIMATE CHANGE

IN BANGLADESH
WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE ?
Climate change is a change in the usual weather
found in a place. This could be a change in how
much rain a place usually gets in a year. Or it could
be a change in a place's usual temperature for a
month or season (NASA, 2014).
WHAT CAUSES CLIMATE CHANGE ?
• Natural Factors (Volcano irruption, Ocean currents)
• Anthropogenic Factors (Man made pollutions)

Human activities are a strong driving factor towards

environment pollution which strongly influence climate
change.
Direct Consequences
• Rising maximum temperatures

Rising minimum temperatures
Rising sea levels
EFFECTS OF
• Higher ocean temperatures CLIMATE CHANGE
• An increase in heavy precipitation (heavy rain and hail)
• Shrinking glaciers

Indirect Consequences
• an increase in hunger and water crises, especially in
developing countries
• health risks through rising air temperatures and
heatwaves
• economic implications of dealing with secondary
damage related to climate change
• increasing spread of pests and pathogens
Geographic Condition
• Low land elevation EFFECTS OF
• Presence of rivers & oceans
• Dependency on farming CLIMATE CHANGE
• Inadequate infrastructure
• Susceptibility to extreme weather
BANGLADESH’S PERSPECTIVE

Demographic Condition
• Huge population density

Outcome
• Extreme vulnerability to climate change
Prominent Disasters
According to a documentary by World Bank,
there are three prominent disaster that affects EFFECTS OF
different areas of Bangladesh every year.
CLIMATE CHANGE
BANGLADESH’S PERSPECTIVE

Flash Flood Drought Salinity

IF CLIMATE CHANGE ISN’T DEALT WITH

Vulnerable Health Problems Increasing frequency of storms

Sea Level Rise Salinization

Significant reduction in farming
11% Loss of land by 2050 33 Million people will suffer
Solutions

Production of Vermicompost Education of climate change

Raise plinths & clusters Infrastructural upgrade

Salinity tolerant Agriculture Implement science & technology
