STD: 9 MATHEMATICS MARKS: 80 TIME: 2½ HRS


INSTRUCTIONS:
 Answers to this paper must be written on the paper provided separately.
 You will not be allowed to write during the first 15 minutes. This time is to be spent in reading the question
paper.
 The time given at the head of this Paper is the time allowed for writing the answers.
 The intended marks for question or parts of question are given in brackets.
 All working, including rough work must be clearly shown and must be done on the same sheet as the rest of
the answer. Omission of essential working will result in loss of marks.

SECTION A (40 Marks)


Answer all questions from this Section.

Question 1

a) Solve the following inequation and graph the solution on the number line. [3]

a) The area of the base of a right cone is 154 m2 and its volume is 1232 m3. Find the
(i) height of the cone (ii) curved surface area of the cone. [3]

b) The model of a building is made to a scale of 1 : 50.

(i) If the height of the model is 1.5 m, calculate the actual height of the building.
(ii) If the area of the land used for the building is 1600m2, find the area of the base of the model. [3]

c) Use factor theorem to factorise x3 – 3x2 − 10x + 24 completely. [4]

a) The list price of an article is ` 3000. A shopkeeper sells the article to a consumer at the list price and
charges sales tax at the prescribed rate of 8%. If the shopkeeper pays a VAT of ` 32 to the government, at
what price inclusive of sales tax did the shopkeeper buy the article from the wholesaler? [3]

b) In the figure given below, OD is perpendicular to the chord AB of a circle whose centre is O. If BC is the
diameter, show that AC = 2OD and AC  OD.

parallelogram. [4]

` 7800 and the rate of sales tax (under VAT) is 10%. The shopkeeper sells it to a customer at a discount of
5% of the printed price and charges sales tax at the same rate. Find
(i) the amount paid by the customer.
(ii) the VAT paid by the shopkeeper to the Government. [4]

a) The average monthly salary of 15 workers in a factory is ` 2850. If the salary of the manager is included, the
average becomes ` 3050. What is the manager’s salary? [3]

b) Construct a quadrilateral ABCD in which AB = 4.2 cm, BC = 3.7 cm, CD = 4.5 cm,  B = 75° and
 C = 105°. [3]
