Why is food wastage a problem?

● According to a survey by Bhook (an organization working towards reducing hunger) in 2013, 20 crore
Indians sleep hungry on any given night. About 7 million children died in 2012 because of
hunger/malnutrition.
● 1.3 metric gigatons of edible food is wasted every year and at least 795 million people are
undernourished worldwide. More than a third of all the food that’s produced on our planet never
reaches a table.
● Global food waste accounts for 6.7% of global greenhouse gas emissions, directly leading to climate
change.
● According to FAO estimates in ‘The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the world, 2017’ report,
190.7 million people are undernourished in India. This represents 14.5% of the Indian population,
which makes India, home to the largest undernourished population in the world.
NGO module

● As per stats, about one-third of the produced food never reaches the table.
● The restaurant/caterer marks any leftovers and the NGO module receives a
notification on their side.
● The moment a notification is received the NGO marks in availability and reach
out to the restaurant location.
NGO Placed order’s history

Once the NGO enters the

Location the order is placed in
conventional manner and is
delivered to the point of
requirement by the delivery
