The Second Sunday of Ordinary Time
Greetings of Peace.
For three weeks in a row, we have not had The Arch Street Band here. The reasons for this decision were
varied, but all Covid-related. As you may know, in general, we have taken a more cautious approach to Covid
than most churches have. The plan all along was to bring the band back on weekends beginning with the
weekend of January 22-23, and that is still the plan. It will be great be to have them back.
Needless to say, this whole ordeal of Covid has been something of a test of our resilience and a test of our faith.
As the pandemic recedes, and it will, Boston’s new routines will evolve in a very dynamic way. In the midst of
that larger societal change, I would encourage you look for changes that you can make to your own routine to
strengthen your spiritual life. Be active. If we let things just happen to us, we might find ourselves in a whisked
away to a spiritual place that we would not have chosen deliberately.
An important part of Catholicism is to support people who are vulnerable. We continue to pray for anyone who
needs our help: Those suffering with physical or mental illness, caretakers, medical workers, first responders,
LGBTQ youth, the poor, people who suffer from the racism of others, and people who are lonely. It’s a good
Catholic exercise to keep including new people in that group, all the while keeping faith in the healing power of
Jesus, and in the spirit of joy which is so central to our faith.
As we look ahead to spring, here are some important dates in the Church calendar:
