The relocation guide is a joint effort by Belleville Chamber & Main Street
(BCMS) and Republic County Economic Development (RCED) to assist
in your potential move. Each of our organizations plays an important role
in supporting our employers and communities. BCMS is dedicated to
revitalizing their historic downtown, being a brand ambassador for business
members, and promoting chamber events. RCED works countywide to assist
businesses with financing, recruitment, or expansion and helps communities
with infrastructure, housing, or grants. We hope this guide will assist you in
exploring opportunities and the rural quality of life our county offers. Please

Agenda is home to quaint, scenic spaces that offer a variety
of experiences. Cedar Porch and Clover House are unique
boutiques for a variety of gifts and knick-knacks. Hope Floats
is a five-stool old-fashioned soda fountain. Chantily Lace
features garden items, antiques and more. Also downtown is
a popular event space for gatherings of all kinds. Nearby is the Wheatland
Hunting Lodge.

Belleville is located at the junction of US Highway 81 and US Highway 36,
also known as the Crossroads of America. Centrally located in the heart of
the county, Belleville is the Republic County Seat, home to one of the only
art-deco courthouses in Kansas, which is listed on the National Register of
Historical Places. Belleville has a unique business district—revitalized through
the Belleville Main Street Program with its designation of a Kansas Main Street
Community, a superior school system, as well as state-of-the-art healthcare
facilities. Belleville is home to the world’s fastest half-mile dirt track, the
Belleville High Banks.

Courtland is located one mile south of US Highway 36 via Highway 199.
Courtland is an active community that takes pride in maintaining its small
town lifestyle. Courtland’s supportive business district includes a restored
Courtland Arts Center, Soul Sister Ceramics, Pinky’s Bar & Grill, and more.
Its rich agriculture heritage is evident with the citizen’s strong work ethic.
Community members renovate downtown buildings and organize events
under Courtland Pride Club that is part of the Kansas PRIDE designation.

Cuba is located just off of Highway 36 in eastern Republic County. Cuba
citizens embrace their rich Czech heritage with everything from everyday
cooking to annual festivals. Cuba was featured in the National Geographic
Magazine as a photo spread entitled 30 years of Living, thanks
to Belleville native, photographer Jim Richardson. View a few of
the famous photographs in the Cuba Community Hall and on the
building to the south today. Visit us each year at the Cuba Rock-
A-Thon!

COMMUNITIES
MUNDEN >> City Office 785-987-5470 | Pop. 93
Munden is a city in Republic County. Munden was named after
John Munden, owner of the land on which the town is built
and trustee for Jane Ann Stephens, is located on the north line
of Fairview township. It’s founders and early residents were
from Czechoslavkian and Bohemian decent. Munden still honors their heritage
with annual gatherings and celebrations. Munden is also home to ProHoe
garden, fire and tillage tools.

Narka is located in the northeastern quarter of Republic County. The
community was named for a daughter of a railroad official. Like other eastern
Republic County cities, Narka has many residents with Bohemian and
Czechloslavakian decendants who came to the area to farm. Narka is also
well-known for an out-of-this-world water tower that resembles a space ship.

Republic is a city in Republic County located near the Republican River. The
community was named for the Pawnee Republic Native Americans. The
Pawnee had a large settlement near Republic. After a local farmer stumbled
upon Native American artifacts while working a field. The area was preserved
and the Pawnee Indian Museum was created. If you are in Republic on the
second Saturday of the month, make sure to catch the Second Saturday Cafe
at the Republic School Building or anytime downtown at the Rip City Inn,
where every Wednesday night is hamburger night!

Scandia is located on US Highway 36 along the Republican River. Scandia is a
quiet town that embraces today’s modern luxuries with its rich Scandinavian
history. Scandia’s quaint business district has a lot to offer including its new
City Office and Library building. Shop for antiques, retail, unique art pieces
and fresh produce in their full downtown or come for the weekend for the
Highway 36 Treasure Hunt.

The Ministerial Association is a gathering of all churches in
Republic County formed to meet the needs of the community,
outside of the church walls. The association conducts the
Community Good Friday Service and Singspiration Sunday
