Section-I: Hardware Resource Section

Name of Hardware Resources:

SHAKTI Parashu (E32-A100) on Artix7-100T FPGA

If selected Hardware Resources with ARTIX7-100T FPGA, then provide justification for
not making use of the Hardware Resources with Artix7-35T FPGA, which may result in an
optimal utilization of the Hardware Resources for the innovative solution proposed.

The hardware selected is SHAKTI Parashu (E32-A100) on Artix7-100T FPGA, since it

has BRAM larger than in Artix7-35T FPGA. Moreover the DSP slices in the Artix7-100T
FPGA is also bit larger as compared to the Artix7-35T FPGA, which would be the best
suitable for our project. As we use several sensors and do a lot of data processing, we need
more RAM. Moreover in real time Artix7-35T FPGA may delay to process the input from
several sensors. So we use Artix7-100T FPGA.

If selected Hardware Resources as other (FPGA Board other than Artix7-35T and Artix7-
100T), then please mention the details of FPGA Board of your choice ( like Name of
Vendor, Series etc.). ( If not applicable put N/a)

Section-II: Technical Aspects of Innovative Solution

Proposal Title:
ADAPTIVE SMART IRRIGATION SYSTEM USING IOT
Proposal Summary:
India is a predominantly agricultural economy that is following outdated agricultural
practices. Thus leads to financial losses to the farmers.
We propose an adaptive irrigation system takes decision on water management depending on
long term weather forecast, which adapts to both seasonal climate and local climatic changes for
efficient water management in farms. This method reduces water wastage and human labor.

Concept Note:
 Taking readings using sensors from the agricultural field and sending it to
NodeMCU.
 This NodeMCU transfers this data to cloud through IoT.
 Edge computing is performed in the cloud by taking the average of readings of the
sensors, thereby reducing data size.
 The FPGA board downloads the data from cloud.
 With this data the pre-formed algorithm compares present weather conditions with
previous year average and also with 30 day weather forecast (15 days before and
after) computes the data in order to make decision as output.

Objectives and Proposed Approach:

Weather Forecasting:

Weather forecasting is the prediction of what the atmosphere will be like in a particular
place by using technology and scientific knowledge to make weather observations. In our
project we are forecasting weather to the system through sensors for the irrigation purpose.
This method helps us to use the available water resources more efficiently by sensing the
moisture present in the soil.

Data Acquisition:

All the data like Humidity and temperature are collected by the sensors and other components,
will be stored to the IoT cloud and then it will be downloaded to the FPGA board.

Computation:

The average of all the previous set of readings will be taken. The average of the readings will
be compared to the current reading. The decision making algorithm is build for the
comparison process.

IOT Cloud:

This is used to store the data from different sensors that takes reading from the field.

FPGA board:

The main part of this project is this FPGA board. This is the place where the program will
be dumped into this board for computation process as well as for the decision making which is
output.

Scope and Boundaries:

The weather forecast details are not precise for the smart irrigation system. So in this project for
a precise weather forecast details the smart irrigation system is fixed in the farmland to collect
the information about the humidity , temperature , soil moisture using uv sensor for around one
year. Then after collecting these data for one year using this weather forecast the smart irrigation
system will analyses the data of before 15 days and after 15 days from the past year for a
particular day and then it decides either to produce the water or not to produce the water and also
how much quantity of water to produce for a field.

Data Analysis:

In this project for collecting the data we are using the sensors like DHT11 for humidity,HR202
for temperature,BMP180 for pressure,ML8511 uv sensor, and soil moisture sensor. These
sensors collect the data and stored in the IOT cloud for data acquisition .for computation the
data stored in the IOT is transferred in the 100T FPGA board .These process is continued for one
year after out of all data the average data is taken and then the smart irrigation system is
implemented.

Section-III: Business Aspects of Innovative Solution

Novelty:

The novelty in this project is the use of IOT and Data analysis tools for decision making,
depending on previous year weather condition and extended weather forecast of current year.
This type of climate analysis driven irrigation method is very useful for the farmers. It reduces
the farmers work and also reduces the water spent on irrigation. From our project we adaptively
use the irrigation system in India .We store the sensors information in cloud.

Opportunity:

There are lots of opportunities for farmers from this project because the recently
government introduced a law named FARM ACT 2020. It proposes the following:

1. The farmers produce trade and commerce (promotion and facilitation) act, 2020.

2. The farmers (empowerment and protection) agreement of price assurance and farm
services act, 2020.

3. The essential commodities (amendment) act, 2020.

This law increases the opportunity for farmers. Our project also helpful for this law and the
farmers. From our project and this law increases the farmers profit. Water also saved from this
project. From this project many people would like to do agriculture in future. So the agriculture
is most likeable work in the future.

Challenges and Risk:

We have no practical weather forecast readings. So we use our project for readings in first
one year. If we have a practical data of weather then we directly start our project in adaptive
mode. This is our main challenge for our project.
