Preparation No.1:(Aspirin) Divided Powders


I. Introduction

II. Objectives

At the end of the activity, the students should be able to:

III. Materials:

Apparatus/Equipment
» Improvised pill tile/fabricated pill tile
» In place of spatula, the following can be used (bread knife, metal ruler, wooden spatula, spoon or
fork handle)

Ingredients
» Starch/Flour

IV. Procedure:

Instructions
 Using available powder and alternative home materials perform the block and divide following
the compounding procedure provided in this activity.
 Pour 1 tablespoon of powder in a 0-6 graduation (large box), using a spatula (alternative) ensur-
ing that each portion have equal height, width and length. With same spatula proceed to make di-
visions based on the small graduations (5 divisions). You are expected to make 10 divisions/10
preparations.

portion of divided powder.
 The activity ends with a labeled finish product.

Compounding Procedures:
1. Using a mortar and pestle triturate available aspirin tablets.
2. Place the triturated tablets on a pill tile and use the block-and-divide method, making sure
width, length and height are equal.
3. Divide into required quantity.
4. Wrap in individual white paper.
5. Place in an appropriate container.
6. Label the container: Could be small paper box or a large paper envelope that could contain all
10 individually wrapped powders.

V. Research Questions:

1. Make a summarized table indicating the drug classification, indication/s, side effects, adverse ef-
fects, contraindications, precautions, pregnancy category, and dosage forms available (with pic-
tures) of ASPIRIN.
2. Reflect on the challenge of extemporaneous compounding of drugs.

 For the body (parts of the paper from I to VI) of the text choose between (Times New Roman and Arial
Narrow) for the font style and set it to size 12. Sub header’s style (VI. References) remains but size to 14.

» Date
» Instructor
 The HEADER should be left unchanged.
