MY CAPSTONE

WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO SUCCESSFULLY

RUN AND MANAGE A YOUTUBE CHANNEL?
WHY THIS QUESTION ?
WHAT I WOULD NEED
• Recording software
• Video editing software
PROBLEM SOLVED
• I was told by my father that he had recording software and an app to edit
videos
FIRST ADVICE
• Do what you find interesting and make sure you enjoy it
• Have a good-looking channel with a banner, logo and bio.
• Get inspiration from youtubers doing the same thing that you plan to do.
• Do what you feel comfortable with
• Do your best and enjoy it
• Make sure it represents you
• Music, voice overs and, muted all work
WEBSITES ADVICE
• Do what you find fun
• Be consistent
• Have a good mic (sound quality matters a lot)
• Make sure your username is available on all platforms
• Use key words
• Customize thumbnails
• Use playlists
• Ask for engagement (like comment and subscribe)
• Become part of a community and make connections
• Prepare for hate
• Keep going and have a plan
THE BANNER AND LOGO
• I wanted a nice custom banner
• I asked Kaylah for a banner
• I decided to use my banner as my logo
THE BANNER
FIRST VIDEO
• I needed to post something
• It needed to be something I could do on my iPad
MY FIRST VIDEO
A COMMENT AND A SCAM
• A while after I posted my first video, I go a comment promoting a website
that supposedly helps social media grow. It was called Promosm. Basically,
you pay for subscribers/followers, views, and likes. The comment was deleted
shortly after it was made so it didn’t help my channel grow. Paying for
subscribers of likes or anything like that is against the YouTube terms of
service so after looking into it I chose not to do it.
TROUBLE MAKING VIDEOS
• I discovered quickly that I either didn’t have the motivation or when I did, I
didn’t have time.
FIRST RECORDING
• I finally got around to recording my second video but the recording was too
long for a lets play
EDITING AND CUTTING IT DOWN
• I had to shorten the recording that was about an hour and a half down to a
30 minute at most video.
FINAL PRODUCT
FEAR
• I didn’t want to post it on YouTube because I was self conscious and didn’t
fully like the video I made
• I felt like I talked too much, talked in circles and just made horrible editing
choices
UPLOAD TROUBLES
• In order to upload a video of over 15 minutes you need to have verified
yourself with a phone number (GEE I WISH I KNEW THAT BEFORE I SPENT AN
HOUR WAITING FOR IT TO LOAD)
FACTS ABOUT THE VIDEO
• I had to speed up some bits to make sure that I could fit it in in a shorter time
• I had to straight up cut out 17 minutes of recording
• I couldn’t get it to 30 minutes but got it to about 38 minutes
SUPPORT
• After less than a day I got 3 comments from small YouTubers all of which
were encouraging
MAYBE NOT?
• I decided that because of time and effort and needing to do something in
class that I would try to make a story time because I needed to do
something.
IDEAS
• I came up with a few ideas for a story time like one from Christmas or one
from the time I hit my brother in the head with a golf club
SHOULD I?
• I didn’t think my mic and editing software was good enough for making story
times…
WINTER BREAK
IF I HAD MORE TIME
• I would’ve made more videos
• I might’ve improved my editing skills
CONCLUSION
• I tried what I've wanted since I was younger
• I worked through multiple issues
• Do I want to continue this?
