Student Evaluations of Teaching Performance
Student Evaluations of Teaching Performance
GRADUATE STUDIES
SYNTHESIS
This study is anchored on the theory of Seldin (1993) that student satisfaction is
among students twice a year to rate teaching ability of each of their teachers with a
Likert-Scale of 1-5. The criteria were pre-set by the university and the overall mark of
their teachers were evaluated. By using the Linear Additive Model, the preferences or
assigning a particular rating scale. These preferences were later analyzed by obtaining
teachers were obtained using three measures: the Equal Weighted Sum Method,
(EWSM); the Weighted Sum Method (CA&WSM); and Overall Conjoint Utility Scores
(CAutilities).
The researcher compared the result of the ESWSM and the CA&WSM.
According to the researcher, the ESWSM merely calculated the average of student’s
marks on their teachers. It was found out in the study that the ESWSM is poor and has
profiles have been assessed as possessing the same average. On the other hand, the
CA&WSM aggregated measures are much better. Through the CA&WSM, teachers
ranked were clearly defined and result showed that there are no teachers with the same
rank.
The Conjoint-Based Approach used in this study was proven to have better
discrimination between the teachers than the standard WSM method and showed high
