Some of the key literatures considered in this research work include that of
Weiner in 2021 who elaborated on the principals' critical role and organizational
conditions in promoting psychological safety and learning, and provided a
guiding framework in the assessment of psychological safety; Amir on the other
hand, presented essential insights about the assessment of resilience in an
organization; and Shehade in 2020 expounded on the importance of
contextualizing approaches, as in the case of the current study, the
development of a contextualized leadership model.

To strengthen the validity of the research findings, the study employed the
mixed-method research design. It also used a modified survey questionnaire for
the assessment of psychological safety and educational resilience among the
participating schools, and narratives that underwent thematic analysis detailing
school heads’ leadership practices published on Padlet as the main research
instrument and sources of data. A group of teachers, and school heads from
four stand-alone senior high schools selected through purposive sampling
constituted the subjects of the study.

Slide 7

The first research finding serves as confirmatory evidence to the existence of

psychological safety, and educational resilience among the participating schools.
In particular, the teacher respondents agreed that psychological safety is
manifested in their workplaces especially when they ask questions regarding
work-related concerns. However, the respondents only moderately agreed that
they feel safe reporting their colleagues' mistakes to school heads, an indication
of their avoidance to creating conflicts against peers at work so as to establish a
psychologically safer working environment.

The teacher respondents further agreed that their work environment reflects a
resilient culture as they feel comfortable being with colleagues in the workplace
and are motivated to attain their professional goals. On the other hand, the
respondents only moderately agreed that they can make unsolicited and difficult

Emerging leadership practices identified by the school heads to be contributory

in creating a psychologically safe and resilient working environment include
 Reflective Professional Practice
 Target-Specific and Adaptive Management
 Motivational/Appreciative Feedbacking/Technical Assistance; and
 Enhanced Collaborative Decision-Making

According to the school leaders themselves, teachers are highly motivated to

speak up regarding an issue with current practice, ask for help, or admit
mistakes when afforded an avenue for healthy collaborations, and reflective
self-expressions most particularly during virtual forums, when provided with a
clear set of target deliverables to guide them during a daily work schedule,
when appreciated regardless of their instructional flaws, and when engaged in
decision making, or strategic planning.

Surfacing from the identified leadership practices are the organizational features
deemed essential in the development of a contextualized leadership model.
These involve:
ELEMENTS such as
• Engagement
• Relationships
• Operational Focus
And VALUES including
• Empathy
• Equity
• Adaptability
School leaders pointed out that being sensitive to the needs and well-being of
the teachers will make them be more driven in adapting to the new normal
working conditions. In addition, touching upon the performance measures of
the entire school system on the basis of the existing operational resources,
implementing equitable opportunities for professional growth, and exposing
them to community engagement will help improve working relationships, as
well as psychological safety and educational resilience.
