SPIRAL CLASSIFICATION

OF THE
PERIODIC SYSTEM

Dr George
Loukas
Before I begin the main topic of my presentation, I
would like to talk to you about the development of my
thought from the early years of my studies in
homeopathy.
I was initially trained in classical homeopathy. Since
the early years of study I was able to recognise the
importance of the in depth understanding of the
particular properties of each remedy. Initially I was
influenced by the book on “Essences” of G.
Vithoulkas. After reading this book I was always
trying to ascertain the essence of each remedy. In
order to expand my knowledge I began to study
various schools of thought in psychology and chose
to be trained as a psychiatrist and study the brain
and its functions in depth.
One of my first discoveries based on the
comparative study of the Ancient Greek
Mythology and Astrology, was the
comprehension of the essences of the metal
elements of the planets.
Another discovery was the correlation of the
miasm theory with the four elements of fire,
water, earth and air. Furthermore, I was able to
uncover a correlation between miasms and the
fixations of the psychoanalytic theory.
Moreover, I was able to discover the
correlation between the typology of the four
basic types of Pavlov and the miasm theory.
In the early 90’s I began to study the work of
R. Sankaran. My trip to Bombay and the study of his
books “The Spirit of Homeopathy” and “The Substance
of Homeopathy” were a landmark in my way of thinking.

Rajan Sankaran introduced an innovation by studying

the psychological symptom of delusion that is used by
homeopaths. He regarded delusions as not exclusive to
schizophrenics but rather that each one of us has a
personal “illusion” of reality; we each have our very own
view of reality. According to this theory, the therapist
tries to determine the particular way in which each
patient perceives reality. During history taking the
therapist not only records the symptoms of the patient
but investigates beyond those in order to uncover their
individual concept of reality.
After my acquaintance with R. Sankaran, I began to
search for the “delusions” of the patient and prescribe
treatments based on them. My specialisation in
Psychiatry helped me realise that R. Sankaran’s approach
had common elements with the discipline of cognitive
psychology. I therefore used the term “Cognitive
homeopathy” for this new methodology. According to
cognitive homeopathy, each individual has particular
principles-concepts which he or she places higher than
everything else in life. For example, someone may be
mainly interested in wealth, another in their family, a love
relationship, fame, their visions etc. The various
delusions of an individual are formed depending on the
environmental circumstances. For example, someone
may feel unloved in their relationship, another may feel
unappreciated by friends, or they may believe that their
relatives will abandon them, that they will be abused, etc.
This approach radically altered my daily practice
because the main goal had now become to understand
each unique patient and not just classify them according
to the existing multi-purpose remedies. There were often
patients who did not belong to any of the known
categories of remedies, but for whom it was obvious
that another remedy that would combine the elements
corresponding to their concepts could be more
appropriate. Consequently, the need arose for the
preparation of new remedies. At this stage the help of
the pharmacists Ioannis and Christiana Efstathiou was
invaluable. They undertook the preparation of hundreds
of new homeopathic remedies. The most important of
these were the new complex compounds synthesised by
three chemical elements, excluding hydrogen and
oxygen. These compounds were named triple salts.

These new remedies started to yield amazing
results. The main reason behind this was the
accurately personalised assessment of each
patient and therefore the more
comprehensive inclusion of their symptoms.
Hence, patients who had previously seen
very little improvement after years of
homeopathic treatment, started to
experience highly positive effects after
taking one of the new triple salts.
In October 2001 I embarked upon a major
health adventure myself. I experienced
serious mobility problems due to a viral
infection. From that moment on, a period
of isolation began for me.
During the first year of my disease I
worked on the expansion of the “Organon
2001 ” repertory with new data from the
homeopathic bibliography.
During that year my only communication with the
outside world was via electronic mail. One of the
contacts I had was with a homeopath from Canada,
Ingrid Beckhor. She had read my article on the Aurum
salts in the Homeopathic Links journal and had shown
interest in their clinical applications. After having
successfully used the Aurum salts in several cases, she
expressed the desire to meet me in person and
subsequently came to visit me at my house in Athens.
This happened in January 2003. During her stay in
Athens I presented her with some of my most important
seminars and she in turn shared the knowledge she had
acquired by attending various seminars on the
developments in Homeopathy. I found the systematic
study of the periodic table of elements by Jan Scholten
particularly interesting and I started to study his books.
After studying this eminent work, certain issues
occurred to me. One of the issues was that several
of the remedy descriptions by Scholten did not
quite fit with my clinical experience to date.
Another issue was that I was not convinced that the
existing format of the periodic table was optimal for
the systemisation of the properties of the elements
in homeopathic terms.
I was therefore wondering, if there could be
another way of representing the periodic table.
Moreover, I wanted to focus on a configuration of
the periodic table that would reflect the concepts
that constitute the base of cognitive homeopathy
which I was employing for the past few years.
One evening the following incident took place: I had
switched off my computer and was waiting for my wife to
help me get up from my office chair since my mobility
problems did not allow me to get up on my own. My wife
had fallen asleep and to avoid waking her up I took out of
the drawer some of my notes on the periodic table. I was
looking at the periodic table and wondering: “What could
be an ideal configuration?” Suddenly, the following
answer occurred to me: “But a spiral of course…” The
next question was how many elements should there be in
each complete turn (cycle) of the spiral. The answer was
simple since the number that corresponds to a cycle
according to Pythagoras is number nine. That evening I
had the inspiration to create a spiral model of the
periodic table, where each spire would contain nine
elements. Fortunately, my wife came to help me get up
soon after I conceived this idea.
I set to work
from the very
next day.
I started
grouping the
elements in
sets of nine by
putting them in
order.
Given that the spiral
shape was not easy
to deal with, I used a
linear model of the
periodic table
instead.
Each row
corresponded to one
spire and contained
nine elements.
By arranging the
rows one below the
other, columns were
also naturally
formed.
Based on this model I tried to determine the
common traits of the elements in terms of
their position in each set of nine. Thus, I tried
to uncover the concepts associated with the
nine columns. I also tried to determine which
concept could possibly correspond to each
set of nine. I began to study the existing
information in the various homeopathic
repertories. It took me several months before
I was able to put together the basic
theoretical structure of this new model.
According to this model, each cycle of
the spiral is characterised by one
principal concept. All the elements of a
cycle are related to this concept. Each
position in a cycle corresponds to
certain traits. All the elements of the
same position have common traits.
I named this model Spiral Classification
of the Periodic Table (SCPT).
I subsequently began to study homeopathic
remedies in terms of this model. This
configuration helped me understand in depth the
psychological sphere of the remedies which I only
knew from their peripheral psychological
symptoms. But the most noteworthy consequence
was being able to formulate hypotheses on the
psychological sphere of unknown remedies to
prescribe them experimentally and get positive
results. Hence, this new approach started taking
the form of a new periodic system, related to the
psychological sphere of the homeopathic
remedies of the periodic table.
