CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

This chapter provides the background of the present study. It includes an

introduction, the statement of the problem, …………

1.1 Introduction

(each paragraph should relate the importance of your study in terms of

needs/worth to study about it, from general to specific)

1.2 Rationale of the Study

(It is important for you to be able to explain the importance of the research you are

conducting by providing valid arguments. Rationale for the study needs to be specific)

1.3 Theoretical Framework

(The theoretical framework defines the key concepts in your research, proposes
relations between them, and discusses relevant theories based on a literature review.

A strong theoretical framework gives your research direction, allowing you to

convincingly interpret, explain and generalize from your findings.

1.4 Purpose of the study

(Usually this is as simple as saying, “the purpose of this study is to…, stated purpose
reflects the research questions (make sure to identify variables/constructs and the
central phenomenon/concept/idea, clearly state the research design)

1.5 Research Questions

To accomplish the purposes, this study was guided by … research questions.

1.6 Research Hypotheses

A hypothesis is an idea that can be tested based on the evidence

available. It serves as a starting point for further investigation to prove by

applying the scientific method. You need to understand the variables:

independent variable, dependent variable.

The independent variable can cause a change in the dependent variable, but

the dependent variable cannot cause a change in the independent variable.

For example:

How does the amount of makeup one applies affect how clear their skin is?

Here, the independent variable is the makeup, and the dependent variable is the skin.

The variables are important because they help determine the cause and effect. In this

example, the hypothesis could be:

The amount of makeup one wears correlates to how clear their skin is.

Therefore, this hypothesis must be tested before it can be proven correct.

1.7 Definition of Terms

The primary reason to include definitions in your writing is to avoid

misunderstanding with your audience.
