Grade – VIII BIOLOGY Marks - 14
General Instructions
1. The question paper comprises four sections A, B, C and D. There are 7 questions in the
question paper. All questions are compulsory.
2. Section A – Question no. 1 to 4 – All questions and parts thereof are of one mark each.
These questions contain multiple choice questions (MCQs), very short answer questions
and assertion – reason type questions. Answers to these should be given in one word or
one sentence.
3. Section B – Question no.5 is short answer type question, carrying 2 marks.
4. Section C – Question no.6 is short answer type question, carrying 3 marks.
5. Section D – Question no. 7 is long answer type question carrying 5 marks.
6. There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in some
questions. A student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in such questions.
7. Wherever necesssary,neat and properly labelled diagrams should be drawn.

SECTION – A
1. Which of the following is a virus? (1)
a) Bacteriophage b) Amoeba c) Yeast d) Volvox
2. Viruses aren't exactly visible under normal lighting. Name the type of
microscope used to observe viruses. (1)
3. Name the mode of nutrition followed by Fungi. (1)
For question number 4 two statements are given – one labelled Assertion (A) and
the other Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes
(a), (b), (c) and (d) as given below:
a) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and Reason (R) is the correct
explanation of assertion (A).
b) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and Reason (R) is not the
correct explanation of assertion (A).
c) Assertion (A) is true but reason (R) is false.
d) Assertion (A) is false but reason (R) is true.
 4. Assertion : Algae are photosynthetic organisms
 Reason: Algae can be either unicellular or multicellular organisms. (1)
SECTION – B
5. a) If you were observing an object through a 10x eyepiece lens and 50x
objective lens, What would be the magnification?
b) Name the part of a microscope which helps to focus light on the specimen.
OR
c) Algae show plant – like characteristics while protozoa show animal-like
characteristics. Justify this statement with suitable examples.

SECTION – C
6. a) Classify the bacteria based on their shape and draw any two types of the
same. (3)
OR
b) i) What is the use of revolving nosepiece in a microscope?
ii) Give an example for multicellular fungi.

SECTION – D
7. Observe the pictures given below and answer the following questions. (5)
