Working With Text
The Type Tools are what you will use when you Creating a Type
want to add text to a Photoshop document. The
Type Tool comes in four different variations and
allows users to create both horizontal and
vertical type. Note that whenever your create
type in Photoshop, a new Type Layer will be
added to your Layers Palette.
Variations of Type Tools
Horizontal Type Tool
This tools allows you to create basic text on a
horizontal plane.
Vertical Type Tool
This tool allows you to create basic text that is
written on a vertical plane (from top to bottom).
Horizontal Type Mask Tool
This is the normal tool that is masked in the
image.
Vertical Type Mask Tool
This is the vertical type tool with mask
There are three ways to create a type : Point
Type , Paragraph Type and Type on a Path
Point Type
To create a point type, click the Type tool and
then just point it to the image. It is a horizontal
or vertical line of text that begins where you
click and goes on as you type. There is no
boundary so you have to press the Enter key to
make a second line.
On the Tools panel, click the Type tool and
select the Horizontal type tool.
Click on the image and type your text.
Paragraph Type
This type is a box type that uses boundaries to
control the flow of the characters in the text.
This is helpful when you want to create more
paragraphs. By doing this, you need to select
the Type tool and then drag the tool to create a
square border where you want to place your
text.
On the Tools panel, click the Type tool and
select the Horizontal type tool.
Click on the image and drag the mouse to
form a text box.
Type your text inside the text box.
Type on a Path
This tool flows along the edge of an open or
closed path. This text flows in the direction in
which points were added in the path.
Click the Ellipse tool from the Tools panel.
On the Option bar, select No Fill and No
Stroke.
Click Text from the Toolbox.
Click the edge of the circle until the cursor
changes to a line with s shape.
Type your text.
Click any of the Layers panel to deselect
the command.
Moving Text
You can move or arrange your text to another
location in the image.
If there are several layers in your image,
select first the text layer from the Layers
Panel.
On the Tools panel, click the Move tool.
Click on the text and drag your mouse to
move the text.
Type Tool Option Bar
The Type Tool Options Bar will always appear
whenever a Type Tool (Type Tool) is selected.
This is where you can perform basic formatting
to your type, such as changing font, font size,
alignment, and color. But know that there are
more formatting options in the Character and
Paragraph Palettes.
Deleting Text
You can delete the entire text or a portion of the
text. To delete the entire text:
Click the text layer from the Layers panel and
click the Delete layer button. To delete a portion
of the text:
On the Tools panel, click the Type tool.
Click the text on your image and press
Backspace key or Delete key of the
Point Type
