1. Why and what is the purpose of maintenance on the shipboard machinery
and equipment performance is routinely measured and reported?
- The main purpose of regular maintenance is to ensure that all equipment required for
production is operating at 100% efficiency at all times. Through short daily inspections,
cleaning, lubricating, and making minor adjustments, minor problems can be detected
and corrected before they become a major problem that can shut down a production
line. Knowing your designated machinery from top to bottom will allow you to spot even
the tiniest variation in its performance. Learning about your machinery's history,
reviewing its maintenance reports, and performing routine checks will give you an idea
of how it behaves and performs in various situations. This will make it simple for you to
identify any faults in your equipment system when it behaves differently than usual.
