Comparing Two Independent Samples

Directions:

1. Follow the procedure/steps in the hypothesis testing, analysis and

interpretation of data.

2. Use 0.05 level of significance.

3. Based from your random sample in the previous learning activity 5 of

hypothesis testing perform the following:

a. Test the hypothesis that there is no significant difference between the

self- performance of male and female employees in the administration.

1. Ho: μx- μy = 0 (There is no significant difference between the

self- performance of male and female employees in the administration.
Ha: μx- μy ≠ 0 (There is a significant difference between the self- performance
of male and female employees in the administration.)

2. α = 0.05, n1=2, n2=13

3. Test Statistics: t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Unequal Variances

4. Critical Region: Reject Ho if |t| > 4.302653

5. T Stat: -0.32689

6. Decision: Since |t| < 4.302653, therefore accept the null hypothesis and
conclude that the self- performance of male and female employees in the
administration are not significantly different.

b. Test the hypothesis that there is no significant difference between the self-

performance of employees with and without computer at home.

1. Ho: μx- μy = 0 (There is no significant difference between the

self- performance of employees with and without computer at home.
Ha: μx- μy ≠ 0 (There is a significant difference between the self- performance
of employees with and without computer at home)

2. α = 0.05, n1=20, n2=38

3. Test Statistics: t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Unequal Variances

4. Critical Region: Reject Ho if |t| > 2.039513

5. T-stat: -2.8994 = 2.8994

6. Since |t| > 2.039513, therefore reject the null hypothesis and conclude that
the self- performance of employees with and without computer at home are
significantly different.

c. Test the hypothesis that there is no significant difference between the peer-

performance of production and marketing division/departments.

1. Ho: μx- μy = 0 (There is no significant difference between the peer-

performance of production and marketing division/departments
Ha: μx- μy ≠ 0 (There is a significant difference between the peer-
performance of production and marketing division/departments
2. α = 0.05, n1=20, n2=38

3. Test Statistics: t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Unequal Variances

4. Critical Region: Reject Ho if |t| > 2.119905

5. T-Stat: 1.743474

6. Since |t| < 2.119905, therefore accept the null hypothesis and conclude that
the peer-performance of production and marketing division/departments are
not significantly different.

d. Test the hypothesis that there is no significant difference in the percentage of

employees with computer at home between marketing and administration
division/department.

1. Ho: p1= p2
Ha: p1 ≠
2. α = 0.05, n1=15, n2=15

3. Test Statistics: Z test for proportions

4. Critical Region: Reject Ho if |Zc| > 1.645

5. Computation:
0.35−0.35
Z= =0

√ 8 22 1 1
( )( )( + )
30 30 15 15

6. Since |Zc| < 1.645, therefore accept the null hypothesis and conclude that the
percentage of employees with computer at home between marketing and administration
division/department.are not significantly different.
